I use a Midiverb 4 running a small amount of plate reverb or delay. Experience has shown me that a basic slapback echo is more functional for the majority of songs. I keep it pretty simple and you really don't "hear" it when the song is playing.

I have tried adding in some specialty effects to mimic the way some songs were recorded. While I have experience doing this from 80's rock bands to country productions, this does not work well in Karaoke. Most singers are not ready to have a soundman actively tweaking their effects.

While playing in a touring rock band in the 80's we had several effects units and these were constantly being changed for each song, during the song, adding big reverse reverb effects to the snare for special parts, etc. While it's kinda fun to play soundman, I feel my primary job as a KJ is to help the singer get their voice out there. I keep it real simple on the effects and make sure the mic channel has the proper eq setting to allow the vocals to cut through.

Keith , Which Setting Do you usually use on your LEXICON-MX200? I Like the No. -1- setting, called BIG VOCAL VERB. I use it in combination with internal CATHEDRAL Effect on the MackieCFX. NICE,DEEP And RICH.
"Big vocal Verb"?....Maybe you have a newer version than mine, altho mine is only 6 -8 months old.....Don't tell me mine is already obsolete! LMAO
