Last night I was FORCED to play a burned disc. This dude has been pestering me for weeks to play his burns but to no avail. Well last night the G.M of the establishment told me to play this idiots song just to shut him up. When the jerk approached me with his disk in hand and a smirk on his face I demanded a tip to play his pirated crap. He obliged with a 5 spot. I said that wasnt gonna cut it. he threw another fiver so I relented. After he finished I asked him what program he used to burn with. He refused to give it up. I have seen and heard all the burn jobs and this guys stuff was KILLER. He had songs that are not available ANYWHERE. He said he could burn ANYSONG he wanted . I want that program SAMMY. What where and HOW. Of course I'll be using for home use only. Peace, love and Karaoke, rokkenroke

You were FORCED to do what?
Sell your soul for $10?
Now you want to do what?
Obtain the instrument of your demise?
Couldn't you just show the jerk your middle finger?

This string could get ugly quickly I say if the guy cries to the GM, who then demands ya do it, if you don't comply you risk losing the venue. Sometimes in that case you do what you have to do - at least ya got the 10 spot, I like that part of it

You know there could have been an "accident" or rig the system so it couldn't "play" if you really didn't want to play it.
To me if someone brings one big deal. How do u know they didn't legally pay for the download anyways. There are legal sites out there doing that. To me arguing isn't worth the hassles. It's not going to kill you.

I ask people to show me their original if they want me to play a burn. I lost two originals to idiot $35.00 a night KJs running a house system cause they thought they'd clean the sucker like a record LP. Now, they only get handed burns.

I've had people ask me to play "burns".
When this happens I just tell the the patron no, and that it's a maximum fine of $50,000 and 6 months in jail. No one has givin me any argument yet. If you can show me proof that the burn is legal and that the royalties have been paid for, great. So far no one has done so.
No bar owner can tell me what I HAVE to do. I don't HAVE to do anything except pay taxes and die. I'm a private bussinessman, NOT an employee!

Houston, we have a problem. Until legislation is "Passed" that demands we cannot play burns, it is up to all of us to decide whether or not we should. There is nothing Legally on the books as yet but the controversy wages on anyway. I only use copies of my originals once in a great while. I make an announcement that I will not play dupes unless they verify the original it came from. Now Sound Choice lets you "Pay" for tracks to be put on certain CDG's at $5 a song and 15 songs a disc. I think this should be the wave of the future for everyone looking to personalize tracks they want and have it done legitimatly until this mess about piracy is straightened out, or We as the Karaoke Community call our congressmen and "Demand" legislation to secure our rights and our jobs with burnt discs.

Ya know - that's a mighty grey area since the CAVS unit came out - who's to say what they loaded and you loaded.
Is it the same? Or is it?
I tried to sell my soul ebay

Here is my problem, I LEGALLY pay for downloads ($1.99-3.99) a song from the CAVS site. I then burn them onto a disc, since it is the same as purchasing any other way.
What "proof" would I need at your show Kojack? Isn't this a legal disc if I paid for the songs?
I agree it is hard to tell the difference, but ther is a BIG difference. I just am curious how you handle the LEGAL downloaders like myself.

actually, if you check, i don't think you CAN "legally" burn them to a disc and use them elsewhere.
What you're paying for is the mp3+g format. IF you change that format, you're technically violating copyright. UNLESS they give you explicit permission to do so.
I personally don't agree, but that's the way the law seems to be applied.

Actually Matt, I just re-checked the CAVS site, and right next to the link to download, is a link for a program to convert the downloaded songs into CDG or MP3G discs.
Now they do email you a reciept of purchase, should I be carrying that around too?
