Karaoke Forums

Though I don't particpate much anymore on any forums, I do notice that there are still strong opinions offered herein about what is minimally acceptable in the way of equipment.  While on one of the other forums I frequented I found people who own and recommend the Fender Passport, if anything positive has ever been said about it on this forum, I missed it!

For those of you who are just starting out and looking at equipment, do not overlook the Fender.  I will only say that I purchased it against the advice of many on this forum.  I have been using it for a year now, and have never regretted my decision.  It has exceeded my expectations in every way.  

Furthermore, after purchasing it I was left with a bunch of money to help build my library with!

My customers love my show, my selection and how they sound!

I will say no more other than consider it and decide for yourself.

If you don't need anything really loud & alot of bass it's probably acceptable in smaller bars, however I personally find it lacking in many areas of sound quality & it wouldn't cover half of the room I run in.

Two years ago I spent a lot of time picking my Yamaha Stagepass and it came down to choosing between it and the Fender Passport. My choice was restrained by my very limited budget and the size of my car. I made the right choice for me and it sounds like you made the right choice too. The Fender Passport is a great sounding and very portable PA.  Hope you are having a really good time with it.

The Fender Passport is a nice sounding PA System and if you're on a budget and know, that you will only play in smaller Bars/Restaurant, it might be fine. Even then, think about this...

What if let's say, you get hired for a party of 200 or more? Maybe even outside? And they offer you $100/hour (which is a usual rate here) and you have to say no, because your PA is not capable of covering the outside party area?

Or another (large) venue comes up, maybe even offers you more (bigger place) and you can't take the gig?

Or would you just do the gig/party and risk a bad reputation, because they couldn't hear anything at the other side of the place, area?

Your PA System is probably the most important part of your equipment. Don't be cheap on it. And I speak from experience.

I guess if you end up at a larger venues, you can borrow or rent another system.  If the need continues, you may want to consider buying another system; it never hurts to own a back-up, anyway!

When I first introduced herein the idea of getting the Passport, I was explicit that I wanted it for smaller, public venues.  It cost me $750 (plus tax) including the speaker stands.  With what I've earned from it, I can now afford a larger system if I so desire.  Several of the KJ's/DJ's I know have two and three systems, and some own Passports plus others.

Meanwhile, I have no goals to change the type of venue where I regularly work and in those venues I am constantly praised for my sound!  Just last Sunday, a guy who regularly "hops around" among 3-4 venues during the course of a Sunday gushed to me as to how well he sounds at my show as compared to others (with larger, more expensive systems).

So again, if you're just starting out, don't ignore the Passport!  It may not be for you, but it just might! I love mine and have been thinking of getting the PD500 for a backup (which would handle bigger venues)!
