Hi all,

I posted briefly about this a few months ago, but I got sidetracked (had to move), so I'd like to revisit it.  My original post is in the archives, so let me start again :)

I'd like to get a VERY BASIC karaoke setup at home.  Nothing fancy whatsoever, just something the wife and I can knock around for entertaining the occasional friend or two.  Here's what I've got so far:

I have a home theatre receiver outputting to a 5.1 speaker setup.  My karaoke songs are all in DivX format (also backed up onto my Mac laptop in MP3+G format), and my DVD player plays DivX.  So as far as getting the songs to my TV goes, I just play the DivX DVD with all my songs.

The problem is in trying to get two stereo cheapo Walmart mics into the mix.  From my previous thread, I see I need some sort of mixer.  Since I am trying to do this on the VERY CHEAP, I see The Source (Canadian electronics store) has a couple of inexpensive mixers that have multiple mic inputs.

However, my question is: I need to make sure I get a mixer that will accept both line-level and mic-level inputs, right?  Because the audio from the DivX and the audio from the mics will both be at different signal levels, and both need to be routed to the same "channel" on the home theatre receiver?

If someone could confirm that, I'd appreciate it.  Also, if anyone has any cheapo recommendations of a mixer that would do that job, I'd REALLY appreciate it.  Cheaper the better--I don't care if the quality is substandard, it's really not that important to us.

Also, one last question.  As I said, I have a Mac laptop with my MP3+G songs.  Is there an alternative (read: simpler) way to set all this up, by somehow incorporating the Mac laptop and its songs into the mix?  I'm starting to get confused :)

Thanks everybody! :)
Dave

You need something like this:

http://www.behringer.com/1002FX/index.cfm?lang=eng

you connect 2 mics, the computer, adjust the reverb and then connect to your sound system!

Don't know where you're from in Canada but you might want to visit Steve's music in Toronto or Montreal, they are very good!

Old  Peavey, Carlsbro etc. tops and cabs can be picked up for next to nothing
and using a spring reverb they accually sound pretty warm.
Go for old. You wont be dissapointed.
