It just so happens that i ripped some songs last night and i wanted to know just how long it took per song.   Some were a minute, some were 45 seconds.   It takes the ripper longer to read the file, than it does to write it but not by much.   A good average is 1 minute per.  Some a little less, and some a little more.    That's not counting typing the songs into the database to be named.    If you count that stuff now the time could be 5 minutes per song, if the database has to be added to.  If the songs are already there a little less time.    It's not just how long the rip takes.   Lots of work no matter how you slice it.     Then the copy to the hard drive time.    Testing them.

No proof, but I was told that the drive was found on the floor.

I would have called their bluff and told them to give 25 discs to their karaoke girl to rip and have her report back on the amount of time it took.  Not only would they learn that you were telling the truth, but that would likely be enough for the karaoke girl to tell them that there was no way in hell she was going to rip all of their discs for them in her spare time.

Diafel in Canada you can transfer the media (CD to HD etc) of sound recordings for professional use if you paid your AVLA fees.  However this does not apply to CDGs because of the sync copyright (words on the screen).

As to whether he owes you money or not that would depend on your agreement. If you feel your being ripped off you can go through small claims court, however due to the above you may be out of luck as copyright law was broken.

I go back to the old days when we only had CDRWin and MP3Toolz. I think my max speed on my CD player was 12. It took about an hour a disk if everything worked right. I know over the years I brought 1200+ disks into the computer, so that's a lot of hours. Almost all of them had to be named and titled by hand as well.

That's a lot of hours. I remember the first sessions lasting 3-4 months.

Ahh...the good ole days !!!!!  NOT!!!!!  Yep took me about 3 mins a song but that was on a slow machine with CDRWIN & TOOLZS, Now it is 1 min a song with the new fast machine.

AS for the bar owner,  have them pay you FIRST if they do want the songs on a hard drive, and don't take anything less that the FULL amount of why you think you are owed.  When you have CASH in hand (no checks), then turn over the music.  If they don't want it erase it, lick your wounds, and remember to get paid FIRST when dealing with a bar owner.

3 minutes a song for what?  :shock:  CDRWin might have taken 3 minutes a song times 15 songs, that's 45 minutes "huh", then ToolZ took another how many minutes? What's the problem with my hour per disk? It's still the old days...even with faster drives and machines...sorry.

I did my rips only at about 4x speed, to cut down on the likelyhood of skipping.
I am glad I did that because even with new disks you can never be sure that it ripped correctly. So far I have only had about 2 "bad" versions due to ripping out of about 1000 that I have played in a show.

For me it ended up taking about 20 minutes a disk.

Generally it took me about a month of time to get my first 4k songs done.
I did most of it multi-tasking with my basic home tasks, like laundry, cooking, dishes etc.  


My main caution is to double check the automatic databases for song titles.

Often they are wrong, part of this has to do with Sound Choice moving around the order of songs and sometimes the titles on the "re-releases" of some of their previous disks.

I figure for about 20% of the disks, I had to either manually enter or correct what was in the database, that actually took most of the hands on time.

Something you may want to try. Use Cd Clone to put an img on the HDD Then use Daemon tools to rip from the HDD.. It is twice as fast. You may have to configure Daemon for a compatible cdg drive.
