I'm assuming by that comment you mean we shouldn't HAVE to load someone's CDG for them to play it? I have found that even if I have the very same CDG, people will prefer to sing off their own CDG. I am guilty - take my own CDGs to shows when I am a guest because I don't like SGB and Legends...Tonight got stuck singing a horrible version of a heart song because I didn't take my sound choice version.

I like to use my own disk because in addition to having my version, I have burned any key change onto the disk. I find that many hosts forget, or fail to make, the key change   I ask for. Seems like a simple thing, but KJ performance is generally bad on it.  Perhaps it is because very few people do it.

I just find that most hosts don't 'get it.'  People are there to sing...as many times a night as they can....and sing something they're accustomed to...with the version they're accustomed to, and with the best mix possible.

Therefore, hosts should buy the best equipment possible, or wait until they can afford it before they buy anything; get the best selections of the most popular songs, and learn how to mix singers, and move through the rotation with skill and finesse. Seems simple enough to me...but maybe not?

not trying to nitpick you but, what determines "the best"??

I know I and Tig both differ on what version of a Bon Jovi song we like, for one. I feel the Pioneer is the best, where Tig prefers the DK ones. I know I like certain versions of songs of other manus that some don't like.

I'm not afraid to have some lesser versions... and I'm not afraid to realize "NOPE, THAT one sucks! Gotta buy the SC version!!"! LOL!

Have to agree with Knightshow on this one.
I know most would like the SC version of "Send Her My Love" but I like the live feel of the Legends version best.  I also like the Amerising version of "Faithfully" over SOund Choice's version.  It happens to be my trademark song and I like to use it in contests but will forgo it if the host doesn't have the Amerising or the Priddis versions due to lyric mistakes in the SOund Choice versions.

Best selection of songs....some songs are only available by one manu.  Not saying 'the best version' of every song. We all know that sometimes there isn't a 'best' version of a song. My comment was directed at shows that don't carry 'the best' (meaning less than a good) selection of songs - maybe lacking a component of up-to-date country music for those who like to sing country; or classic rock; or Waylon Jennings. I have focused on having a representation of songs from each genre. That is what I meant by a good selection. And heaven knows, it is pretty well common knowledge that a show can't be the best it can be if the hosting company only has SGB! (Of course it is possible to use the built-in equalizer on the board if you have one to make SGB sound better but first the host has to realize there is a need to ... )

I agree with ya Karen!

I too tend to groan when I see all selections in the songbooks as less than spectactular, but maybe the host is on a budget, and needed to get the show going. I know when I started out I didn't have a solid "foundation" or core set, but did have 4500 songs of my other discs... so when I got paid for my gigs, EVERY penny went to saving for that first Foundation. And that $750 was VERY hard to come up with the whole while trying to deal with the smaller selection of songs...

so for NEWER gigs, I can be a bit forgiving... especially in today's world of pirates with loaded hard drives or copied discs (from the days of yesteryear!). Now for gigs that have been going for some while... yeah, I'm wanting better and more diverse songs.

Also, sometimes it's the crowd. For instance, until I started dating my fiance, I didn't have a crowd that really wanted the newer country. She commented that I needed more of that, and so I began to get them, and then the crowd got more into that! My own failings to see that area was hampering my shows, and I didn't know it!

My friend came from your show and was so upset he could hardly talk.  It seems you are stealing peoples songs right under their noses.  He wants to turn you in to whom ever he can.  You took his disk, loaded it on your computer.  Then gave him back his disk.  Then you called him up to sing off the cumputer, the very song you just loaded from his disk.  The song he sang was not in your book and you did not have it.  If you think that people are so stupid to believe that you upload somones song onto your computer and it just disapears after the person sings it, then you must think the people on here are pretty gullable and dumb.  My advice to anyone who goes to your show is to not let you hold on to their disk for any given time.  He caught you copying his disk, maybe thats why you thought it necessary to talk about your uploading (Copying peoples music on to your computer)  Its one thing if you ask, but you are just out right stealing and taking without permission.  Maybe if you would save your money and buy the CDGs you don't have you wouldn't have to steal.  It pretty funny how you are so hypocritical, talking about how other hosts, should save their money and buy good music and equipment.  Well why don't you take and use some of your own advice and stop stealing from people.  Just as a note to everyone.  When something is uploaded to a computer, it does not disapear unless it is deleted.  Don't beleive the bull that its some program that doesn't  keep your music on the KJs hard drive.  I am not against KJs in general, but I do like to expose hypocrits, frauds and liars, that steal from you karaoke singers and are so insecure they try to make themselves look better by talking bad about everyone else including other KJs, because they make me sick.  Don't worry though what goes around will come around, so keep looking over your shoulder hypocrit.  As for all of the rest of you honest people, please have a good eve.

I think you are making assumptions you can't back up (or maybe you can at THAT particular show).  I run a computer & have never taken a customers disc & loaded it into my computer.  My computer is in such a place where I can't even open the drive, I use my external (real) players to play customer disc.  I have no way to copy a disc at my show.  So don't make generalized statements toward computerized shows, they may be out there, but most likely not the norm.  If you think otherwise, you can come to my show any night of the week, i'm in the same place since 92.

It is because of thoughts like this that I never included a cdrom in my computer... and for outside discs, I ALWAYS use another cdg player to play the customer's stuff.

So I can NEVER be accused of stealing their stuff.

Thats obviously a cheap shot, intended to assassinate someones character. Before you make those accusations perhaps you should discuss it with the KJ in question and in person.  Those are some very serious claims you have made.

I suggest you come to his show and prove that this is being done. Fact is you can't. #1 you don't have the courage, and #2 you know you are lying about this in the first place.

What a moroon
