I just saw some posts about CDGs that have background vocals pre-recorded. Well I was in a rather embarrasing situation a few years back. I arrempted to sing "Hair" by the Cowsills. The main part I actually did fairly well on, but when it go to the high-pitched part, it was all on me to do it. I assumed it would be dubbed in. Needless to say, I only attempted it once.
I did "Dreams" by the Cranberries once--I don't remember what manu it was from. But if you know that song, you know it's almost all in 2-part harmony. Well, I was trying to sing the lower part (which is a LOT more interesting melodically IMHO), and wouldn't you know, THAT was the part that was prerecorded, so I had to sing the higher part! I wish it had been the other way around! Plus all the weird chanting stuff was prerecorded (between verses and at the end--if you know the song, you'll know what I mean). I sang those parts anyway.
I love singing Rosemary Clooney's stuff, but her version of "Hey There" does NOT translate well to karaoke at all! It's supposed to be someone having a dialogue w/herself, and when the voice on the CD is singing "Hey there, you with the stars in your eyes," and the karaoke person does the spoken parts ("Are you talking to me?"), it loses the whole effect! They should have just recorded a standard karaoke version of that song and left all the singing up to the karaoke person!
Oops, we were talking about long outros, weren't we? Sorry to get us off-topic...
