Suppose you want to create your own karoake song and put it on a cdg.   Is there any freeware available for adding text and synching it to the music, or are there recommended software packages?

 driz,

Do you mean a song that YOU wrote that hasn't been published or "covered" by ANYONE? Just curious because, not sure, but I think you'd want to get copyrights for yourself FIRST, before putting it in ANY format. I'm sure there are others that would like to do the same with their music as well. GOOD QUESTION!! I'll bet there are programs and software available ( I keep thinking of Windmill Music from the UK that does "parody" karaoke discs...funny stuff) and believe that they MUST have used some type of program to change ALL the lyrics. I believe they also "orchestrated" the music with "midi's". Not sure, but I think if you "google" them, you could probably get more info in that regard.

In the US at least, if you write a song and promulgate it in any form, you automatically have rights to it. You could register your copyright, but really it isn't necessary. You are protected simply by having written it.

There are a few advantages to having registered it, mostly for proof. You can see:

Producing the music is something that is best discussed elsewhere. Once you have a WAV or MP3 file, then you use something like "Karaoke Home Producer" to make a karaoke version. Pretty simple, actually.

About the easiest to use is Powerkaraoke. There is no freeware that I know of.

Thanks for the links.  Yes, this would be for dreaming up some song from scratch and then trying to create a karaoke version of it.  Not sure if I would ever do it, but the thought crossed my mind so I had to ask!

I did find this piece of software in a google search...for what it's worth

I forgot about Karafun; but then you can try the demo of most other non-free program too.
