Hi All

My existing PA consists of 2 EV SX300s running out of a Yamaha EMX512 SC, with a no name monitor.

I am lacking bass response and am considering purchasing a Laney CX Sub A Active Subwoofer- price is a big consideration in this purchase.

Gigs vary between 50 - 150 people.

Does anyone have any experience with this subwoofer? Should I get one or not? How does it compare to the behringers and samsons out there?

Cheers!

Vic in Sydney

It is just that another Behringer or Sampson.

I'd highly reccomend something else.

It's only 250 watts. That is nothing put into a Sub especially an 18" Look for something 700 watts +

Yorkville LS800P, QSC HPR 181i are about the 2 most reasonable priced subs on the market right now.

My Problem is HPRs are very new in Australia and work out to Over AUD2500 each, same with the Yorkies.

I am looking at 2 Peavey Subcompact 18s right now for about AUD1200. What is your experience with this sub? Don't have much info on them online. Are they powered?

Cheers

$1200 is very reasonable for a high quality Subwoofer.

Karaoke people need to stop being so cheap, and karaoke community's sound as a whole might be alot better.

I don't know that Peavey makes an active Subwoofer. I own a bit of Peavey gear. I can tell you it is not very efficent and is very power hungry.

Being that you are fron AU I would actually suggest EV.
ElectroVoice SBA760 is a very good option.

you say CHEAP like anyone who doesn't spend $1200 on a sub is cheap --come on Lyquidye - You suggest the QSC sub and you don't even use it according to your site you use Mackie and another brand.    I don't use a sub so I can not offer advice to the OP but he specifically mentioned PRICE was a major conern.  Most KJ's are not  working 4 days a week and also doing weddings and parties etc.  You seem to be a very succesful mobile entertainer who can afford to over spend on equipment to host a karaoke night.   Just because someone buys Behringer or Yamaha products instead of BOSE and QSC you seem to think that there SOUND is inferior to yours. 95% of regular Joe's couldn't tell the difference between your $10,000 system and  2 speakers and a powered mixer in a bar setting  LMAO

there there boys :)

I have located a JBL JRX118SP  which is selling for AUD850. Although I know this is not my best option I am inclined to go with it because of its price. A Brand New piece would cost AUD 1600, I am purchasing off the display floor.

Any thoughts on how this sub will work out for me?

Hopefully my last question.

Thanks!

The JBL is a Good Sub. We have 2 of them sitting around in the garage.

I didn't know the AU $ was so close to US That's $790 US. It amazing how expensive things are down under. I can get that Sub here for $550 new..
