Also just got my hands on a VERY simple 2 channel mixer.

Will use this when testing also, so can see what's what...

I can't find a stockist for the Behringer device right now (not looking to purchase online - am skint but cash rich this month).  So would one of these work the same?  Seems to be the same principal.

Thank you

These cheap USB devices are using old 16 bit technology and not very good specs in the signal to noise ratios - most of the more quality units are using at least 24 bit, I really do not understand why one would spend a great deal of $$$ getting a nice PA system and quality laptop (or PC) only to skimp out on the sound interface that's going to feed the 'it sounds good, but could be much better' sound to your nice PA system?  I don't understand this!

OK, I bought that one from the link above.  All seems good so far, just downloading audacity to test recording.

I am considering moving to my Dell in the long term, which has good on-board sound and doesn't suffer the no line-in issue of this laptop.  However, I just want to iron out a few Vista bugs with other hardware first.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction :)

Just one last question, is there any downside to going through a USB hub?  Latency?

Oh for crying out loud,,,

The device I bought is buggy as heck, it buzzes (on the recording) every 15 seconds.  Will return and look at a better model.

Alternatively, is there any way to record TO iPod?

OK, I bought an external soundblaster, and it worked a charm at home testing.  Get to the show and whenever I got Compuhost to record, the output went, well - a bit hissy and clipped a little.  Obvious solution for there and then - don't record.

Going to setup in my hall again later and test a few things.  It sounds almost like the "line-in" was being played (it wasn't).  If nothing else, I can use this one card for recording and another for output.

But I do now like that setting up has become a lot easier - seeing as I put it all through a USB hub, which also connected the external hard drive, Compuhost dongle, Griffin Powermate, etc.  1 cable as opposed to 4 :)

Anyhow, got great feedback from the owners (excuse the pun), said I made their regular seem dull, and will be getting more bookings.  To be fair, I said that any karaoke show, if people play and sing the same things week in, week out could be repetative, and it's not his fault.  I am not in the habbit of stepping on people's toes.

Only 1 minor incident, when some idiot tried to walk off with the mic.  Easily dealt with - all music down and simply announce I needed the mic back or nobody else can sing - played some "Boo" wav file, and everyone in the place looked like they wanted to lynch him.  As he brought it back, played a cheer wav :)

Finally sorted.

I think it was just a bit of a quirk, as I cannot recreate the issue. Maybe something was interfering with my mics (they are, in all honesty, VHF ones - I should upgrade).

Will test fully on Saturday pre-gig!
