Any good laptop should work - my Dad uses an HP he bought off the shelf at Best Buy & it works great with Hoster. Try to get one with a good sound card built in. If you can find one with XP (good luck) I would do that, otherwise be prepared for Vista woes!

About any modern laptop would do it. I recommend a Toshiba or a Dell, as those are the ones I have used that I am happy with. Since you can get naught but Vista these days, make sure you get 2G of RAM.

I have a Toshiba Satellite A-series and a Dell Inspiron 1520. I acted before XP went off the market, so I only have 1G of RAM on them. Both have a decent internal sound chip (the newer Realtek) so I just use that. Both have SVideo and VGA out, so no trouble with the monitor function.

So we are running our sound thru an M-Audio Fast Track not too much need for a super sound card , right ?

Right, with a nice external the internal isn't as important.

Ive had great luck with my refurbished gateways, bought from gateway on ebay. I recently bought a 2 gig duo with 17" display bunch of goodies and XP not vista for around $500. this was a NEW computer that was returned by the origional buyer, then refurbished and resold by gateway. NOT something that was used for a year or two and refurbed by the mom an pop shop down the street. it may have had some small flaw that was repaired, or may just not have been what the buyer wanted. either way it is the cats azz for what i needed. I have bought two laptops from them this year and im very happy with both.
