I like Lonman's choices as well, for about the same things.

I will add DK and Supercore.

On DK, the music and production values are high-quality, and the lyrics are extremely accurate to the point of being the best. Downsides to DK are 1) I think they are no longer making tracks, 2) they have no lead-in dots, and 3) they have a pan flute that can be annoying (especially if you pitch the song different than the original).

I bought all the DK disks over time from karaoke.com on sale, for an average of about $5.00 per disk. That was a heck of a deal, and now they form the backbone of my collection. At 33 cents a song, it was great -- they have a lot of stuff that gets sung and make a great foundation collection.

For value, you can't beat Supercore, which gives you 16 disks for $60-$80.The tracks are high-quality for the price, being a combination of Pioneer for the older ones and Pop Hits and Soundchoice for the newer ones. (There are some Radio Starz and Big Country/Big Hitz in there too.) They, like DK, have a lot of songs that get sung.

Thanks for the supercore tip, since I only have a handful of karaoke musiic so far. I just bought the 43 cdg set for 50.00 on E-bay. Don.t recall exactly how many songs, but there's a bunch. Was'nt sure if I should have posted the e-bay seller here, but its easy enough to find. Ron :)

As you may have realized by now, there are way too many opinions about the quality of CDG's to decided that certain manufacturers should be avoided (at all costs). Most respondents focus on the "musical integrity" of a manufacturer's product, ignoring factors such as you have considered, like:
accuracy of lyrics
color tones
sound quality
timing of swipes
volume levels

And, bottom line, any opinion is purely personal and can differ from one KJ to another. For example, if you avoid Backstage altogether, you'll never get the Billy Joel disc which is, IMHO, one of the best renditions of the provided songs. When my BS Billy Joel disc had gotten damaged, I bought the replacement from a fellow forum member who had just purchased it and thought it sounded "midi". Meanwhile, most KJ's in my area who I have pointed the disc out to have purchased it! Also, I have the whole collection of SGB and am very happy with that purchase. In some cases (i.e Jazz Discs) the SGB tracks are the only version available and on ocassion an SGB track has proven to be the best version I have as compared to SC and other "top" manus! And, of course, sometimes an SGB track sucks.

So... I have come to the point that when I want to purchase new material I try to find out who has versions of the tracks I want. Then I get their opinion(s) or try to listen to tracks on line (which doesn't allow one to "see" the product) before making a purchase.

the problem is, the Billy Joel disc, is pretty good, but it's the diamond in the ruff! LOL! (little reference to our former member BigDog!).

I like the SC and Pioneer versions far better (with the lone exception being "The Longest Time"... I think the B.S. version NAILS it!). Zoom has released a good BJ tune recently I'm thinking of getting... in fact, Zoom's versions are as good if not better than the BS!

BS has a couple great Eagles tracks on their Eagles disc, Get Over It for sure that is pretty solid, guitars a little middy sounding but can be eq'd out. The rest of the songs are ok to downright crappy. Can't stand their version of Hotel Cali. Prefer the Sound Choice version for that one (although no legit kj today will find this one most likely). The Zoom version would be my 2nd (well first if I had to find it again) pick for that one.

Ironically, Matt, if I sing a Billy Joel song, it most likely will be "Longest Time"; however, I really like the BS version of "River Of Dreams", as well!

PS: I've seen the BS Billy Joel disc offered for as little as $.99
Also, I believe it is Zoom that I prefer for the Eagles?
Lastly, as another example, SKG which is far from the best quality (IMHO) has the only version I have found of "Ain't Got Nobody (No Tenga Nadia)". I also prefer many of the tracks on their Platter's disc!

My favorite three are Sound Choice, Chartbuster, and Pop/Chart Hits Monthly. :)

Morgan

Even my wife has been unable to do that, due to no fault of her own (if you get my drift), but I am flattered by the offer!

Best regards

Ohh... and, I don't have reptile dysfunction!
