Just got back from our local spot. We had walked in at the end of the rotation and the hostess decided to add us in before the next found. Didn't mean much to us because that's how she runs it and although we were more in the mode of wanting some liquid courage first we didnt' want to make a scene about declining so we sang. Well, someone in the audience started making a scene and the next thing I know the host is telling the hostess that there are complaints about my being up there singing and there is a commotion going on and everyone is talking and yelling and I just have to finish the song with all these people complaining about me. Turns out someone objected to us being added in without waiting our turn. This person was a former host himself and he spent the night telling everyone how the current people didn't know what they were doing. The hostess explained that you have to figure out how to fit newcomers in somehow and that's how she does it so she is sorry if people are offended. But the guy refuses to sing for the rest of the night and then every time someone new walks in the door he grumbles about how maybe they should be put right up to sing. We go every week. He comes every few months or so but he kept complaining to the owner that he gets to sing every 15 minutes at other places and these hosts (with a 28 singer rotation in a bar that holds about 30) didn't know what they were doing. Another couple who drive from an hour away to come regularly got the same treatment about not waiting their turn and they actually left. Some people agreed with him but still didn't see why he had to make such a scene and ruin the fun. There weren't any rotation "issues" at this place before.

His attitude is why he is a FORMER host. If he complains that loud I wonder what people did at his gigs when new people came in and never got to sing because the rotation was so large and the remainder of the night didn't have enough time to fit everyone in.

I have had other Kjs come and visit and bring some of their following with them. I have one in particuklar that does this and their people get mad that I don't take bribes because that is how they run a show. Sorry that is just how it is. The one guy got so mad he tore up a dollar a bill and put it in my tip jar. I find when I get a karaoke enthusiast that is used to the way another KJ runs his show and it is different then the way I do things I end up doing a lot of explaining. I stick to my rotation which is rare in my area.
