Ok, so I got my filename issue straightened out and I've got several songs loaded into Compuhost and I'm seeing a lot of screen clutter on the lyrics screen like words aren't clearing off cleanly. Is this something with Compuhost or the quality of the rip? I used Audiograbber and thought I had everything on the highest setting but not sure. I don't have any issues with the disc in my normal karaoke machine.

Thanks,
Ken

I do have to say I'm having some fun now that I can play with it. :) I tried to do a search on this subject to no avail :(

I've always had problems ripping with Audiograbber. I have never come out with a clean rip even when I had a certified cdg compatible drive.
If I were to get a separate ripper, i'd go with MTU or Powerkaraoke. These programs will work with most drives out there.

Lonman is right both PowerKaraoke and MTU"s products come up with better rips than Audiograbber, Kjrip and cdgrip. I tested the same song off the same disc without cleaning the disc and the last three came with artifacts in the graphics.
Both MTU and PowerKaraoke came out perfect clean rips at max speed. I don't know about microstudio as I don't own the latest version which supports MP3+G but Powerkaraoke uses FreeDB to name the song files. Maybe Lonman can tell you whether Microstudio has a naming feature to it or if you have to type the info in.
My test was on a stock dell computer and I also repeated it on the rackmounted computer I used to use for shows. I redid it on the rackmount because I wanted to see how Hoster ripped it. The results was the same on a Plextor drive that supported CD+G subcodes.

I don't actually use it, but I believe Microstudio uses the Free DB as well. So it's only as good as what people upload to the database.

Thanks for the reply guys. It looks like I'll have to check out the rippers you mentioned. What do you guys use to rip just audio then?

Do you do each disc by hand, or does Hoster have it's own naming utility. I haven't downloaded that one yet, been playing with Compuhost so far.

Thanks again!
Ken

For just audio I use cdrip - it's free & works great.
I use Hoster & it also uses the FreeDB. But sometimes I will need to hand type or re-edit what someone else has uploaded.
