This is a spinoff to Dan's bumping self in the rotation for money. It addresses the issue of even taking money. These matters are a crucial core of certain talents that I was born with and at an early age although bashful needed to express. These talents do not consist of singing pitch perfect or of a very broad range. My talents give troubled souls hope. They take people back to another time and place and make them feel good again. They relieve pain and suffering for short periods at crucial times. They give some a new appreciation and understanding of music. I have turned country music haters into the biggest fans in the world. My biggest thrill is when a song I am singing connects with someone so much it gives their soul wings and we both are on a high that is seldom met.

I have no problem with bands working and practising and making a decent living playing in grungy bars and present talents and music in an honest fashion. I have seen Hank Williams roll into the parking lot in the back seat of a car and with a hangover and sweat give the audience everything he had. Those were the ones that laid the foundation and made music what it is today. Now you have generations that prostitute things that are sacred and want to get rich. I absolutely hate ASCAP and RIIA with a passion. Dont get me wrong I believe in prostitution but not for music..

After all that through the years I have had a small humble fan base. When I do get a request that is the time when I get half way serious and put what I have into it. That is appreciated and felt by most. Occasionally I might accept a drink but I have never prostituted my talents. They give my life meaning at times when I need personal purposes and a reason for living. If I was under contract to provide entertainment for the evening I would do it at a fair price.

Some here will not understand these ramblings but the musicians here will know exactly where I am coming from and I should hope I have provided some different slants on the subject. If you have read this far Thank You..

EDIT Our room was totally MT last light and I opened with Your Cheating Heart and had people young and old coming out of the bar and in an hour was SRO.

Ya know, sometimes we can take things a bit too seriously.

Just sayin :)

I think this is quite different from what Dan brought up. It's one thing to pay for someone to be advanced in a rotation, quite another to get tips or pay for already having sung the song that someone really enjoyed.
