Anyone using a program to adjust and equal out the volume of the audio of your mp3+gs?????

Is this something that is recommended if you are going to a computer controlled show? I saw one ripper that would "normalize" anything outside of a certain percentage range to even out the volume but wasn't sure if this was something that was done by a majority of users.
