Again, comes with Cubase & a great Lexicon reverb plugin.

I wonder if the Lexicon plugin works with Audacity? If it is VST, it might....

Disc only I have downloaded a few Karaoke songs onto the PC in a KJ program. It take sooo long to get the songs downloaded off the disc to the folders? Does anyone have any better sugestions of ideas to improve this task???

That's the biggest task every disc user that converts their library undertakes, I converted my library of 960 discs in about 3 months, about 4-5 hours a day. No quicker way - well unless you want to be completely illegal.
Get either MTU Microstudio or Powerkaraoke cd ripper & if your drive is compatible (which chances are with either of these it will be), then rip at max speed. Do a file test every few discs.

I will address the player first. If you don't need a rotation management program then You don't need to change Anything.
As to KJripnZip, if you're getting clean rips I see no reason to change. If you find that you are getting spots in your graphics while playing the song then you may have to change rippers to one that works with your drive or clean your disc. Nine times out of ten the spots are caused by a dirty disc. The tenth time is the fact that your drive isn't compatable with KJRIPNZIP. If you need to change rippers I suggest PwoerKaraoke.

I am amazed at how many KJ's are worried about weight, and that being the reason they use a laptop instead of a rackmount system. I have all of my system in a 12u hight road case, with 9u space for the mixer and such on top. It is heavy. So what. It is all together and wired so you are ready to go as soon as you roll in. Are all KJ's wimps or what?

I am curently replacing my 3rd drive with a rackmount 2u system that I am building myself. I will still have my 2 CAVS players on my system as a backup if not anything else. Anybody who plays on a computer without disc backup, or another computer backup is crazy in my opinion. PCI sound and video cards, internal DVD drives instead of USB drives, have to be higher quality and a wider variety. I will also have 2 hardrives mirrored in the system, something you cannot do on a laptop.

I also keep my books and other stuff in professional quality water tight containers, and they are heavy too. I have a mini dolly, so the weight is only an issue loading out of my truck onto the little dolly. Maybe I am just a strong guy.

Heavy gets REAL heavy if you're moving equipment 4-5 times a week. Hubby and I have made every effort in the last year to lighten the load as we also move a lot of band equipment. After a while it gets to be too ominous a task. Now we use a DJ rack that contains a DVD player, a Tascam burner, and the board on top. A laptop handles all our bumper (filler) music and we also use this for DJ'ing; we have a PC shuttle with all the karaoke music on it, a cordless keyboard & mouse, and a flat screen. We use either 12" or 15" Mackie powered speakers and a 15-inch sub. The only really heavy part of it is the sub. Being a 50-something (oh lordy, how can THAT be?) female, I want to be able to move the entire setup myself and do occasionally.

We've been in the biz since the mid 90s and have run probably every configuration there is - and up until March of this year ran everything passive. We carted two big cases of CDGs with us, and a selection of regular CDs for bumper music. Our rolling setup had two amps, crossover, outboard effects board, and a burner in it. LIfting that puppy in and out of the van, up and down stairs, was just a killer.

I like to have a little energy left to run a high-energy show, so moving a lot of heavy equipment is just not something I enjoy, nor is it necessary. I don't carry my CDGs with me anymore and if someone wants proof of ownership, I can have them back to any of our gigs in an hour....it isn't worth risking leaving them in a vehicle as we have 1100 CDGs...imagine replacing those.

So, yes, you probably are stronger....stronger than I am...and if you don't mind humping equipment around, have at 'er.

k

Unlike most KJ's who are worried about weight, my reason for going lighter has to do with a bad shoulder.

Mine comes from *fear* of a bad shoulder. 8-)
