Oh my God does exist. And unlike your entity who is to busy sacrificing the young and innocent to quench his or hers unholy desires. My higher power believes only in the the goodness of Sure sm 58 mics, JBL speakers and Elizabeth Sabine vocal teachings. This horse aint dead yet darling. Peace and love

Yeah I agree with just about all you said Karen. The main thing for me is I think I would lose my best singers if I bumped with bribes. I know I would lose their trust.

When this topic came up a few months ago I thought the best solution offered was for the briber to shop it to the next few singers up, and I'd stay out of the money end of it. But if it was for $50 and up I might try for some of that action... I mean that's a lot of money. But I've turned down so many money offers in the past that it hasn't come up for me to test out. They all know that it hasn't worked before.

Not meaning to call you out in particualr BIll H. but some of the people on this board seem to think that we are doctors curing cancer or something. Its not like we took some karaoke oath to, "first change no rotation" My regulars would think I was an idiot if I didn't take the $100.00 to move someone up. If your regulars would abandon you over this rare event, then your show has more problems than you realize.

You are obviously new to the business it would seem. I have regulars because there is no manipulation of the rotation in such manner & have some new regulars just recently migrated from a show that does.
No it's not a karaoke oath, but it is a respect & wanting to keep it. Maybe some of the singers wouldn't mind, maybe all of them wouldn't mind, but being in this business since 91, I can tell you - yes people do mind. They may not say anything or even say hey that's great and they move on to other shows the next time not saying a word to you. I'd rather just keep them in the club that's paying me well to being with.

Yes new to the busines, only ten years or so for karaoke and 25 or so in music. You have regulars because you put on a good show. If they have to wait an extra five minutes and abandon you over it, you do not have a good show. Simple as that. If they would take a hundred dollar bill out of your hands over 5 minutes of their time, well that is pretty pathetic. Granted I am talking on a rare occasion that this happens. A totally different ball of wax if this is every night for $5 a pop. That I would agree is unacceptable, although I have seen it happen.

I am not going to lose my personal integrity and even a POSSIBILITY of someone leaving because of it. I have been at the same show 7 nights since 92 - so would like to think I do an ok job. I have some regs that still come in from that time. It's not worth possibly losing even one customer over for a few bucks IMO, and yes I will turn down $100 bills waved in my face, stupid maybe to you. I usually make it up in tips for a job well done with no expectations of getting moved around, rather than taking the bribe & basically saying screw you all for 5 minutes, i'm busy lining my pockets, you could be next too if you do the same. A bribe is a bribe whether it be $1 or 100.

Oh my...LOL This subject has heated up the boards...LMAO

A tip is a tip and a bribe is a bribe. This was clearly a bribe!

Some folks (KJ's) it seems are ok with it. Many are not.......

Put me in the NOT Category

I would leave this type of show if I saw it happen..plain and simple. This is unfair to everyone else in the rotation and many folks will leave and not come back. I'm not willing to risk my reputation to line my pockets.

If you disagree that's fine with me.

Just my 15 cents.

Do unto others ... kind of sums up my feelings on this. If I'm at someone's show and watch this happen over and over again, which it does at some places, I won't go back. I don't do it to my people and I sure don't want it done to me. So I guess it should be "don't do unto others...."

I have had people explain to me a good reason why they'd like to sing before they leave and only be a few spots back. I'll go to the people in front of them in rotation and ask if they mind. I'll only do this if the people in front of them are regulars I know that they won't mind. I think being honest and up front with people when you decide to try and change rotation is huge. Ex: A patron was leaving for Iraq the next day and needed to leave and wanted to hear his mother sing to him before he left. I knew it to be true.

If I was offered a huge tip for changing rotation and knew the people were only a few spots back I'd try the same route. There is a middle of the road to this. I could honestly say 100 % of my regulars would tell me to take the money and run with a smile, and would be very appreciative I actually ask them if they minded first. They'd also realize I respect them by trying to keep the rotation fair.
