Thanks, Karen. To all, I went to check out some speakers tonight, and unless there is someone with a brilliant idea to help me change my mind, it's pretty much made. As Lonman stated to me in his first response to my very first question, the QSC HPR152i is where my heart resides!
The salesman at the store let me hear many models, and none had the high quality sound and depth of the HPR152i...even far more expensive speakers. Plus, even he, himself, would not stop bragging to me about how great of a speaker it is and each time I asked about something else & explained what I'm seeking, he went right back to that speaker.
Thanks so much to all; this is exciting me more and more by the day!

I went to GC a couple of days ago to shop for equipment and they had that new EON speaker up and running. I have to admit, I was impressed with the sound coming out of that speaker.

Yep, but I think the price is a little bit too high for what they deliver.

Just looked up the JBL EON G2's at AMS www.americanmusical.com. I'm not sure why anyone would buy from ebay, new or not.
There's sooooo many web sites dedicated to selling equipment, and they all have just about the same price range. Try:
www.americanmusical.com
www.musiciansfriend.com
www.music123.com
www.fullcompass.com
The JBL's are going for $599 or $540 non-factory sealed at AMS. I've got a friend who insists that JBL's are some of the best speakers out there. But I think everyone has their own preference. Personally, I really like EV's. I've got an old 15" inch EV (horn/woofer cab) that still kicks butt, and an EV Force i along with an EV Eliminator 15" monitor. For my money the EV's simply kick out better sound and more bass than competitors like Peavey monitors.
But I really like my Peavey SP4 FOH speakers...they're awesome!
Something that I think a lot people miss when talking about buying speakers is, are they buying a monitor or FOH speakers? Typically, monitors will be 8 ohm speakers and are designed to be a little less than full range speakers. In other words, they're usually for vocals, guitars, etc, and don't reproduce down to the full range of say a kick drum.
FOH speakers on the other hand will have a 4 ohm impedance (get more bang out of your amp), and generally cover the full range you're looking for. Of course, powered speakers being another story.

Depends on the model speaker, MOST typical 2 way single driver cabs are rated at 8 ohms. The dual drive cabs like the SP4 are 4 ohms which aren't practical for MOST karaoke situations.

True. Of course, the FOH speakers with two 15" woofers (for example) are 4 ohms since they have two 8 ohm woofers in series, whereas the typical monitors only have 1 woofer at 8 ohms.

Actually the dual drivers are wired in parallel to lower their rating to 4 ohms, if two 8 ohm drivers were wired in series, then it would become 16 ohms. But a FOH cab does not necessarily have to have the dual drive design to be considered FOH. FOH is any speaker that covers the main audience. And again for karaoke the dual driver designs are pretty impractical simply because 90% of the places that karaoke is being presented does not have a stage to get the speakers elevated over the crowd where they should be.

Geez, tried to sound smart and instead sounded like an idiot! Of course, that's what I meant to say (I've been up all night posting on message boards).
I actually am very well versed (believe it or not) in the live sound industry and with live sound gigs, as I run them all the time with my full PA system (100' snake, subsnakes, drum mics, 20 channel mixer, effects, 11,000 watts of power etc).
So do you think the JBL SRX728S Dual 18" Sub is overkill for a KJ gig?
Hey, that's right...this is a Karaoke site!
Well if nothing else, at least I can sing! (Where's the HORNS UP Emoticon when you need one)?

If you have a club that it fits in, then absolutely not! One club I had 2 SR4732A loaded with McCauley 6326 12" drivers stacked on SR4719's. This was an actual raised stage. The singers loved it, also had 2 floor monitors on the stage in each corner & 1 in front so there was no "I can't hear myself" compaints. This was half the system I ran bands with.

Alot of the speaker engineers from JBL work at QSC anyhow. I'm not really impressed by the sound of EONs. I actually pity some of the KJ's and patrons who use them.
