Can a karaoke DVD be ripped like a normal CD into mp3 and cdg files?

No but with VJripper from www.clubdjpro.com you can rip them to a compressed video format.

No because a .CDG file and Video file are not interchangeable.
You can easily change a .CDG file to video i.e. AVI, MPG (Overlay Graphics on Image)
REVERSE THE PROCESS: Today there's no software in the wold that can rip the karaoke graphics from a DVD and format it to CDG.

Thanks for the info. I saw a great deal in a Chartbuster Country DVD and thought about buying it but then thought hey how do I rip it to my 'puter for shows.

The Karaoke DVD format being talked abot here, is it the same as a SCDG disc or are these two different formats?

You can extract the audio portion of your DVD and then compressed into mp3 using DVD Audio Extractor:

No, that's a proprietary format from CAVS that is merely their version of MP3+g on a DVD disc.

The CHARTBUSTER DVDs might be similar to what SC put out some time ago, which was merely their version of tracks on a dvd instead of a .cdg format. In which case you SHOULD be able to rip them to computer! IF your copy program can recognize them.

THey're NOT the video format ones.

That was what I was suspecting but wasn't sure about since I haven't seen or used the Karaoke DVD video discs. Thanks for the clarifcation.

You can copy a SCDG DVD ALL DAY LONG!

Load you dvd karaoke disc. If a player opens, close it.
Go to my computer and Open the drive where you disc is.

If there's a CAVS_MCG folder, its a SCDG disc!
Copy and Paste it to your computer and you have All Of The Songs!

You'll have all of the songs, but they're .DAT files not MP3+G'S!
You can convert them using Roxbox, the CAVS decoder
OR ummm...... ohhhh, ummmm, CDGFix!

I have a cheap DVD player in my rack and a switching box next to the computer. No ripping needed. Eventually I will because it's a big of a pain, but really takes not much longer than loading a CDG used to take. You can buy a cheap DVD player and the switching box for under $100.

IF it plays in a dvd player then it's a dvd. If it doesn't tehn you need the converters that swooooop mentioned.

I'm not so sure about that -- there are quite a few players that play multiple formats. 99% it's a DVD.

Some DVD players play SCDG (Cavs), VCD, some play NEO+G. All would find MP3 files on a DVD and play them, too. I haven't heard of one that does MP3+G, but it ain't beyond the realm of possiblilty.

There was one that was a UK based player. Unsure if it's sold here in the states, or what the options are on the sucker. Tig talked about it being the only one that could play mp3+g files.

Dear SW00000P I copyed the cavs-mcg files from a nutech dvd and tried to use cavs decoder and it wouln't reconize the files as they come up as a dat. file. I haven't tried roxbox or CDGFix to convert there files. I made a post about the same to this one and nothing is working Can anyone else verify that CDGFix will convert these Dat. files to a format that can be burned to a disk. I would be dissapointed to purchace CDGFix for 70usd and it not do what i want it to do. Tks Scott
