That could be something that an 8 year old could definitely run & can be hooked into a bigger PA system as well and still sound decent.

I like this one because of:

The various formats it will play (CD, CDG, DVD, MP3)
Built in large, color monitor
Facilitates auxiliary monitor
Has auxiliary audio input and output jacks
Built in video camera for recording (a kid will love that)
Digital Key Control
Echo
AVC

Remote with following functions: TV/AV1/AV2 BUTTON...STANDBY / ON BUTTON...CAMERA BUTTON...CHANNEL UP/DOWN BUTTONS...CURSORS BUTTONS...DVD MENU BUTTON (PBC BUTTON)...STEP BUTTON...PLAY/PAUSE...ZOOM...STOP...SUBTITLE...REPEAT...SETUP...SEARCH...PROGRAM...CLEAR...AVC (AUTO VOICE CANCEL)...TV/DVD...OPEN/CLOSE...SLEEP...CALL...MUTE...MENUE CURSORS...PERSONAL PREFERENCE BUTTON...MENU...VOLUME UP/DOWN...ENTER...SCAN (BACKWARD/FORWARD)...PREVIOUS...NEXT...A-B BUTTON...ANGLE...AUDIO...SLOW...DISPLAY...

There's absolutely no reason why the machine I linked to couldn't be hooked up to a PA system. What it provides that no other unit I've seen offers is:

- BIG, built-in, COLOR (not B&W) monitor

- Capability to handle Karaoke DVD's. Also the possibility to utilize MP3 backing tracks if she can get a hold of any!

- Lots of functions on the remote control

Settle down.
I didn't see this until now, yes it would be good as well, however i'd get it through Acekaraoke & pay a little more getting a disc pack as well.

Plus they offer an extended warranty (1,2 or 3 year) service over the 90 day manu warranty. Which you just can't get on e-bay. And with these type of home units i'd opt for the extended warranty.

For an 8 year old! It has all connections to hook up to an external PA as well.

If I remember, which isn't always the easiest thing for me, I'll call Singing Machine next week and find out about what, if any, extended warranties they may offer. They're in Coconut Creek Fl just 10 minutes away from me.

I'm not much of a believer in extended warranties, however, I've spent hundreds of dollars fixing a GE refrigerator (2 diff problems) since buying it about 2 years ago! Nonetheless, those warranties can produce more profit to the provider than what was made on the original purchase, almost!

BTW... if I bought warranties on everything I purchase every year, I'd go "broke". Don't buy warranties unless you know you couldn't afford to fix what might break.
The $400 I've spent repairing the refrigerator was a bad deal....but things shouldn't have starting going wrong with a brand new product. NO MORE GE for me. I had a rusting problem with one of their washing machines that required replacing and that would not have been covered by any warranty!

Lastly, my Singing Machine unit is about 5 years old. The only problem I've had is with the spring on the lid-latch. That part is simple to replace and can be purchased for under $10 for a package of three, or so. I've had problems with that twice. Meanwhile, I believe that part is made by some other company and is universally used by different makers of CD players.
