I know this has been covered before, can't find it. I tried duct tape, makes a mess of the cords. I bought several rolls of blue 2" painter tape to try. 60 yard rolls, 7 bucks a roll. I looked up gaffer tape, very expensive. I've heard some just throw carpet over wires and cords. Thoughts?

I use carpet, or block cable routes with speakers or stands, or use duct tape. For weekly venues I try to permanently install some cables.

I've tried duct tape, it works for what it is needed for but made a sticky mess on my cables.

I only use it as a last resort. I don't seem to have much of the same problem, though, with the brand of tape I use (3M). It is why people use gaffers tape.

There is a thread on this subject on page 2 of technical forum, about 10 from the bottom. In that thread, go to Morganfey's suggestion, it is showing CORD PROTECTORS. This will offer another option. An item like that might be at Home Depot, or some other home improvement store. Hope this helps.

Cord protectors ( the ones I'm thinking of - Hollow vinyl runners that cover the cable but are flush to the ground) do protect cables and REDUCE the possibility of tripping. I prefer carpet runners. They virtually eliminate tripping, and seem easier to handle- cheaper too! :P

Go to W/M or some such other store, look in their rugs/mats section, you'll find long runners of carpet that are used for hallways or stairs. Better to get rubberized back if you can so it doesn't slip all over if you're putting it on hardwood (not so bad if on rubber). We have used carpet runner for years. Have to watch if the corners start curling up, though. Some double-sided carpet tape will remedy that.

Thanks Karen and all. I think I will stay away from the Persian runners.

How about feeding the cords through the cord protector and duct taping the cord protector to the bottom of a cheap runner. That way the cables stay put. Runners can be sold by the foot on a bolt at Home Depot.
