I found myself in a dilemma the other day when I needed some files off from a sick puter of mine and I really didn't want to install it's hard drive permanently into my current puter. I ran across this critter. I picked one up and It works great, Supports All 2.5” & 3.5” SATA HDDs up to 1.5TB, and is hot swappable. I thought it might be of some interest to some of you as I know a lot of you carry external hard drives.

Nice clean looking thing.

I use a something nowhere near as clean, but pretty efficacious and a darned sight cheaper:

That covers SATA drives, and for IDE:

Maybe you'd find this price more appealing.

Hey Mcky do you have and use the IDE adapter?

Just wondering if you could use that to run an internal CD Rom drive externally on a laptop to play cdg's instead of a regular disc player?

$59 for a hot swap, eSATA USB interface? Nice find. Would work well for populating those external drives but the exposure sure isn't something I am going to want to carry with me. Perfect to sync a mobile storage unit with the master backup though.

Intriguing :)

I have one like it -- can't guarantee it is the same one with the way those things go.

I don't understand what you are getting at. Why would you not use the drive in the laptop itself? But the answer is, yes, they work in general. I have hooked up DVD writers with them, though they typically will not boot a system.

The drive I have in my laptop will not play cdg's but I do have a couple of internal DVD drives that I have scrapped out of junk computers.

I use one with a Lightscribe drive that I use for labeling my disks I burn to take to shows. It also burns disks. Should be no trouble, I would think.
