I couldn't find the same speed ones too Tom on New Egg.
Thanks Murrlyn for the link.

I was at G center today, and was talking to one of the guys behind the counter. He has a brand new M Audio Delta 1010LT PCI Audio Interface
http://www.americanmusical.com/Item--i-MII-D1010LT-LIST
that he had bought for himself, then went with a Laptop PC, He offered it to me for $100.00. G center sells them for $200.00.

It has 2 XLR microphone inputs which would be handy.
What does everyone think?

The only drive I have had consistently work are Liteon 48x12x48X drives and I have one in my desktop, one on my server and one in my audio rack.

I'm also looking for a rock-solid drive for ripping, and looked on Newegg for the above mentioned Lite-on 48x12x48X drives. I see other speeds, but not specifically a 48/12/48. Do you know if the others are as good? Any specific model number better than others?

Anyone else care to chime in with another suggestion?

Thanks!
Tommy

I can also confirm that LiteOn is a good choice, I've been building my pc's with them and they are CDG compatible and also make sure to go with a Sata drive like this one:

I never get a broken letter on my backup disk when using Nero.

keddano,

I didn't want to quote your last post because it's way too long  But I do believe the Emu-1212m is a better buy than the Audio Delta, ONLY because of it's D/A converter. Now, don't get me wrong, they would ONLY be 2 models from Emu that I would strongly recommend over all the suggested Audio Delta cards and it's the 1212m & the 1616m. The 1616m has the exact same converter and is way too expensive... So, there's really only one great model from them and believe me, it is THE best buy out there! Now keep in mind that you'll need 2 PCI slot for the 1212m and not all new mobo still offer PCI  I know ASUS still has many model with at least 2 slot but I wouldn't know for the other brand, I only build on ASUS

And no driver issue with Emu, they did when it was introduced but that's way back... in fact, they haven't upgraded their driver in a while, it says it all

Plus the 1010 is mainly for studios - multi track recording. All RCA outputs for the analog, where the other cards mentioned had balanced 1/4" connections.

Any particular reason for SATA? I'm using a laptop system and this will go in an external enclosure.

Thanks again!

Sata allows a faster transfering data, it eliminates the "master" or "slave" issue (no jumper needed) when internal... but in your case, not a big deal, your external option will communicate via usb which is already slow! Using a Sata drive in an external case will give you NO advantage or less you can use eSata with the laptop? you can use a PCMCI to eSata card for that...

USB is history for external drive in my opinion, eSata is the way to go... 3gb versus 480mb

Here's some reading regarding Sata:

Yeah, well it's an older laptop with only USB 2.0 or firewire. I've got a drive that's working pretty well, but doesn't like some scratched discs. I'm just looking for the ultimate in stability.

On a side note (and to contribute to the actual thread in some way), I do plan to build a rackmount PC as soon as the rest of the pa system is done and just use the laptop for a backup. Probably won't be for a few months and we're trying to get our discs all ripped (about 350-400 discs I guess?). Anyway, thanks for the advice!

Acually this is becoming a very good thread answering alot of the repeat questions that sorta pop up here from time to time. Would make a good sticky.

Let's go to the video card please. To me is seems it shouldn't take a real high cranking one, since your not pumping major graphics. But I could see that a decent one may keep the graphics up to speed.?????? But does it have anything to do with output for being able to pump big screens and the distance of cabling signal Lost?

Thanks again.Dan :withstupid:

Correct, I'd say a good NVidia from Asus with 256M with the dual out (s-video) would be just fine  I say NVidia because much easier to adjust and very stable driver, not really better than ATI but more friendly user :D Look at the promotions, sometimes you can get a 512M for less so it's always better to have more

Just know that LiteOn is the leader in optical drive and they were the first with the sata connection  Now it all depends on your karaoke software, some will still only work with the old cdg mode and some will pretend to be able to read cdg with all drive manufacture, not really the case  Microstudio will brake my letters but not Audiograbber, figure that one out

We're using CompuHost and CDGRip. I might be picking up cdgfix for problem rips and to rip the few CAVS discs we have. I'll definitely get a couple of Liteon drives for the rackmount machine when it gets built, just trying to figure out if it might help the process we're going through now. You're all being very helpful, thanks a bunch!
