Anyone have experiance with 10" subs like attached from MAckie
seems like a good price ?
http://www.pssl.com/Mackie-Quad-10-Prec ... -8-Ohms--s

I haven't heard it myself, but I'm dying to hear one. That speaker for $300 is a no brainer except for the 95lbs. weight. I'm a mobile and I just can't see dealing with that kind of weight unless I have a ramp and put it on wheels. That's why I bought the Electro Voice Sb122 subs about a year ago. At 35 pounds each I can carry one in each hand. I'm also dying to hear the Quad 8" matching tops, I bet they're excellent for vocals.

For #1,200 I don't thing you could find much that could compare to a pair pf the Quad tops and a pair pf the Quad subs. I have no idea where I could hear them though. I called GC and Sam Ash and nobody has them on display. If I was in need of a system I would be very tempted to just take a chance and order these without hearing them. If they sound good this is some serious bang for the buck.

Honestly it's a pretty nice sounding sub. Tight bass response, isn't going to give the lower 'loose' sound for like dance clubs boom boom.

Again, they aren't bad at all, especially with the proper power pushing them & crossed over correctly - being the 8" drivers, they give very nice midrange response for vocals & throw them on top of the sub, you have a nice rounded system - although I like the looser bass so would most likely couple them with an 18" sub. I think I would use them in smaller-medium size clubs more than larger venues. The few reviews on that site are also very favorable.
The subs I would push with an amp capable of 1500 watts per channel into 8 ohms or a 3000 watt bridged at 4 ohms (for 2 subs). Or if only 1 sub, then 1 amp capable of 1500 watts bridged at 8 ohms.
The tops I would get an amp capable of 1200 watts per channel @ 8 ohms.

What's got me worried is the price. I don't even think they're anywhere near cost. Why so cheap? It doesn't sound right. Possible they are knock offs?

My theory is they are blowing out slow moving products at rock bottom prices. I was at my local Sam Ash and they were selling some Tapco speakers for ridiculous prices. I'm willing to bet that the Quad speakers and subs will not be selling for $299 each in the future and that this is a limited time only offer.

Ahh...Mackie / Loud Tecnologies is just about dust. Most companies are selling off stock and no longer carring the brand.

These 2 speakers just never caught on, people are scared of something different.

Seriously looking at this set up ..At least starting with the s408's.
I'll be using the Yamaha 512 powered mixer... The spec on the s408's is due do its configuration you can use a smaller amp ( 512 I believe is 2 x 350w @8ohms)

These speakers are HEAVY at 71lbs -- but the price is just hard to pass up
$299 for these almost seems to good and I'm sure its going to go up soon.

#1 Can I use these as my ONLY speakers now with my mixer and eventually add probaly 1 sub
#2) Am I better off just upgrading to some YAMAHA 15" club speakers ( these I'm familiar with and like)

The cost diff is the Yams are $698 for a pair and the Mackies would be $600 not a big diff.....decisions decisions

LOUD is in some pretty rough shape at the moment, they've been delisted from NASDAQ and have posted significant losses in 2007 and 2008. They're currently undergoing what appears to be a pretty successful restructuring so I'd agree I don't think LOUD (which included Mackie, EAW and Alvarez among others) are going anywhere anytime soon.

I noticed that MAP on the 450v2 was cut $150 in the latest MF catalog. It's now $599. I think that's just reflecting the new reality of where powered speakers are priced today though. $750 was too high.

There are still tons of loyal Mackie fanatics out there who will buy nothing else. The brand has an amazing following considering what it is. I can't imagine it not surviving somehow.
