Yeah, $75 a night. Phooey. Even house hosts get that. $75 is what i charge just for setting up/tearing down. At my regular gig, I do have the convenience of storing my gear on site and I couldn't see lugging it around three nights a week. Ugh.

I will do private parties and weddings for cheap as a gift. I just did a 50th birthday party for $100 (even though we'd negotiated for $200). The night went really well, and the gal that was paying me was the birthday boy's daughter, and she's cute, and comes to my shows. So I gave her the VIP discount 'cause I could tell $200 was a bit of stretch for her.

I just did a redneck kegger last weekend for free. It was for before and after the band. Lots of my regulars and their guests and great music.

I'm doing a wedding this summer for $150. Starts at 3 (I'll probably setup around 1) and they want me to play until at least 10. That's still almost $17/hr. (beer, food, and brides maids too - not bad to get paid for a wedding gift) and they think they're getting the best deal on the planet. I live in a pretty tight area where most people know each other or know someone who does, so the word of mouth is golden. Besides, what better gift than the gift of music!

But for a bar gig ... full price!!!!

Do the lights and fog ... I've been doing them for three years and they add so much. The fog bottles warn asthma users shouldn't swim around in it, but in three years, only mild complaints. Congratulations. Make sure you remember the laws of FFC ... Fair, Firm, Consistent ... in all situations. People will appreciate it so much, but sometimes not til they sober up. :)

Well last night was a hoot! I went to work on 2.5 hours of sleep which sucked but I was pumped up because last night we had an awesome crowd! People came out of the woodworks. The main place in town that usually has karaoke (crappyoke) had a band, they weren't good I heard and they shut down at 11:30. Well we were the lucky recepients of that messed up move.
I started at 9:00. I sant 2 early songs and then took myself out of the rotation as the list grew. No hiccups, many were amazed by my new light and the fog and the bar that hired me for my 2nd gig had a rep there and they want me back after seeing my lights and my new sound. He told me they didn't bring me back due to my short libary. Go to facebook and search for big star karaoke (Muscatine) and see the system they have playing in their house weekly for the same price I charge.

I had a few requests from people wanting me to move them up including a massive boobie rub but I stuck to my guns.

It will be interesting to see what transpires tonight. Fridays our town of 23,000 usually has karaoke at 3 locations. We will make it 4 hour however the other 3 are at the outskirts of town and we will be the only ones downtown.
