Put your FX processors on the EFX send jacks, and then use your monitor on AUX1 or AUX2.

Are you just not using the onboard FX because you don't like them or are you using them in conjunction with additional outboard FX? If it's because you don't like the Onboard FX because you don't like them you can still use the the FX Sends and Returns with your external devices and mute the internals, leaving your Aux's available. If you are already using all of your FX and Aux sends and returns then I think you could use Sub 3/4, Utility Out or Headphone Out to send a signal for a monitor.

You want to use the actual AUX sends for the monitors. The EFX sends are what you want for the effects. If you want to use just outboard effects, then put them in EFX send 1. For the return I prefer to use an open channel instead of the effects return. In this way you can actually use both the internal & external in conjunction with each other to make a nce layered effect. Just make sure to never 'send' the external effect it's own send!
