Same here, I encourage these singers to any rap I do have that's actually completely clean lyrics wise. You do not have to actually carry a tune.

Wrong! He steals riffs and music from others. He hasn't had an original musical idea yet. DON'T tell me i'm WRONG you &%#*! Did i say he writes the music? NO! Does he write the lyrics? YES!! OBVIOUSLY you misinformed individual, EVERYBODY seems to know he did (as stated in HIS lyrics in HIS songs_, he STOLE black music (RIFFS, MELODIES) but obviously RAP MUSIC wasn't around back then, SO HE DIDN"T STEAL THE WORDS! Duh, Elvis Presley did the same same thing as well as countless others. DID PMS just GET MET with PMS??? You've been a real *%#$ lately in your posts!! Apologies to others, but "D" has a severe case of.....whatever it is. Lose the chip! Wow! I don't know what you're on, but if it's nothing, then I suggest you see your doctor and get on something tout de suite! You obviously have an anger management problem that needs to be dealt with. I see no need for name calling, even if it's only in *^@%$ . If you don't like my posts, then don't read them. Real simple. I have no chip, but it's apparent that you do. I have every right to disagree with you and tell you you're wrong if that's what I happen to think. It's a little something called "free speech". Ever heard of it? Get over yourself and go see your doc. When you said he writes all of his songs, I took the definition of song as lyrics AND music, not just lyrics, otherwise it's just a poem. And I never once said he stole the lyrics, just the riffs and music. As for Elvis et al, at least they had the cleverness and good taste to disguise what they stole not blatantly steal it unchanged (and un- re-recoded) and claim it as their own. Perhaps you should have said "lyrics" rather than "song" to avoid confusion.
Okay DS, i'm not "on" anything but a natural high on life living in paradise, but you're the one with anger issues- just look at your posts starting a few months ago.

Babs @ Thu May 14, 2009 9:40 am wrote: Rap has it's place in karaoke. I agree completely Babs. Rap opens karaoke up to more than singers. When I looked over my room last night I'd say that 1/3 of them would not have been there if I didn't allow rap - tables of guys, female singers with BFs who both wouldn't show if the guy couldn't at least get up on stage for something. And ladies who like rappers. I'm telling ya, the good rapper guys steal the show. Quote: Rap is very hard to do. It is all about the timing. I have singers that are tone deaf, but can rap awesome.
If any of you think this is stupid or easy try it. I can learn a song simply by listening to it a few times in my car. If I'm learning a new rap, I need to go over it here at home line by line over and over taking each line one by one, and then combining it with the next and the next until the whole thing is done. And then it's never as good as some of the guys who specialize in rap in my room. There's a real talent to it, and those who pull it off effortlessly impress me as much as the good singers do.

Well said Bill. I try and follow the rap songs when people do them and have trouble keeping up. I swear you need giant lungs and a really good memory. The screen of words changes so fast you need to memorize them to do them.

Agreed. Those that like rap seem to think it's easy...until they try. Even an oldie like "Ice Ice Baby" will leave you out of breath if you do it right.
Unfortunately, badly done rap is awful...worse than a badly sung song IMO. Very rarely do I get a good rapper.

Ok. I'm going to say this as plainly as I can. I don't have any anger issues and I don't have anything against you. Heck, I don't even know you.
But what I take issue with is your name calling. You don't see me calling others names, even if I disagree with them and even when they call me names, as you do. It has no place here and only serves to undermine any credibility you may have. That, and it certainly doesn't make you look very good.
As for riding the coattails of Lonman, if that means I tend to agree with him, (but only because he happens to be right!) then I guess I do. Oh well. Nothing you can say will change that.
As for being self-righteous, perhaps you should take a long hard look in the mirror. It might prove very revealing.
Now this is the last I will address you on this. As far as I'm concerned it's a closed subject. As I said in my previous post to you, if you don't like what I write, then please don't read it. Ignore it and move on like the adult you are.
Cheers!

How true is that?!
I have one good "rapper" and he does very well with songs like Bust a Move, and a few others. He can get the room rocking. And then you have someone who tries really hard (bless their hearts) but really murders it. You almost need to be an auctioneer to get through some of them.

Occasionally the odd singer who is a rap fan (not a rapper) will try a rap song, get about every 20th line, get embarrassed, and walk off the stage. These are kids that listen to it all the time. I used to try and help them but unless I'm very familiar with it, I won't open my mouth...the exception is a GF and I used to do "Get Low" - now THAT was good for a laugh!

I'd rather have it the other way around. There's nothing worse than an off-key ballad singer. If the rapper is unsure I have options as a KJ. The beat will still be there and no one will be ducking under their tables due to incoming from the mains.

And then there's "SOLD! (the Grundy County Auction Incident)" sung by John Michael Montgomery when I was singing that I'd take a rap song anytime.
And aside from rap, Nu-metal bands done good gets the crowd rocking. Linkin Park never fails for me.

The few times I did Sold - Grundy County I kept up alright...I tried Chop Suey! by System of a Down for the first time (and I had already had a couple of pitchers of Miller Lite) - WOW - harder than I thought, my tongue could not keep up with my mind.
Sometimes there's a guy who can do a rap song well but usually it's four girls doing Baby Got Back or Shoop - POORLY. And one is doing all the vocals while the other three stand around with stupid grins. Please sit down and gimme back those four minutes of my life while you're at it.

You want a rap that will leave you out of breath? "Party Up (Up In Here)" by DMX! People in my area ask me to do it once in a while. When I was a senior in college, you couldn't escape that song...still listen to it occasionally.
No one in my area but me does any Eminem records -- I'm not a huge fan of his, having never bought any of his work -- but I do like "Lose Yourself" and "Forgot About Dre" so I've done them once in a while.
Oh, and am I the only one who HATES "Ice Ice Baby"? I did like it when it was a current release, but I was 12 at the time and had never heard of Queen. It took Freddie Mercury's death about a year later to do that. And don't forget what Mr. Van Winkle told the music press at the time -- he did NOT rip off "Under Pressure"! There's an additional note in there in the hook! It's completely different! That's almost as absurd as believing that Michael Jackson never did anything to that first kid after paying his family a $22 million settlement to keep them from bringing criminal charges.
