in all honesty, I can only think of a single time or two that I bemoaned the karaoke job... out of YEARS of doing it. Ya honestly can't say that about a nine-fiver!

I still get that 'pumped' feeling after an especially great show. As soon as I don't get it anymore, I know it'll be time to stop, but I don't think that'll ever happen. It's just a great gig.

I cant do it anymore esp if it is a straight karaoke format I got burned out on that after several years of hearing the same songs over and over. Never get in a rut and adapt to new ways. Listen and watch the crowds They will tell you whats working and whats not. They get burned out too. When they are burned out it takes a huge effort to get the energy back.

I don't think I could ever do this job full-time, but I have been doing two nights a week for almost 6 years now, and I still get excited to go to work about 80% of the time. I have a full-time day job, and karaoke is DEFINITELY the best part-time job I could ask for. Almost $35/hr to play music to 20 somethings. Good times

It is a great job isn't it? To be able to turn one of my favorite hobbies into a profit-making venture is just freakin' great! I had no idea how much work was involved but I also never knew how much fun it was going to be either.
I'm still very new to this business (about a year) and really enjoy the new "energy" I get before each show I do. I'm sure that will subside with time but I still hope to keep my enthusiasm and spirit.
P.S. The "new" toys I have to keep buying for this karaoke business is getting pretty ridiculous. My wife's gonna kill me!

Someone asked me the other night how much longer I thought I'd do karaoke. I told them I have 2 girls in college, so at least another 5 yrs. With one daughter wanting to be a Dentist and the other wanting to be a Veternarian I could be doing karaoke til I'm 70.
Seriously, most nights I love what I do and feel very fortunate. Other nights I go to bed wondering how long I'll keep doing karaoke.

I'm pumped for you but I'm also pumped over picking up an old bar I used to do when I was disc based. Man are they gonna be impressed with the changes I made with my system. You know I don't think I even have a piece of equipment that I had when I was doing it there last.

It's great ain't it???
I'm right there with ya my friend. This is a full time thing for me. I'm married with two kids, have a mortgage and a car payment, ...and somehow I've set it up so I can make a living doing this... in a recession no less!!
I was selling cars before, now I'm the Karaoke Koyote!!
If you love what you're doing, the people will love you too! Karaoke people are the best... sure the drunks are a pain sometimes, but I just allow myself to be amused and move on. You get to make other people happy and get paid to do it! What more could you ask for in life??
There is no feeling like a successful great show! And you can take pride in the fact that YOU put together your system, your music library, had the gumption to go out there and make it happen and do something on you own!
Ain't no 9 to 5er time slave that can say that!!
Be an entertainer, have fun, and make 'em sound good, and you're golden. Good luck my friend!

Been my only 'full time' job for the last 16 years! Haven't worked a real 9-5 job since then!

Sometimes I can't believe I just lucked into this. I really wasn't planning on doing KJ work at all. It just happened.
I'm not full time with it but yeah what a life!
A side benefit to me has been a newfound appreciation of music from the last 10 years or so. I never really gave it a shot until this gig. But there's some good stuff in there - just like there is in the music from all time periods.

I've always loved music. People would always ask me when they couldn't remember a song or who sang it, or the lyrics. Or hum me a few bars so I could tell them what it was. Now I'm associated with music on the money making side of it. To me, that is just too cool! I wish I could be full time but the market here just isn't big enough right now. For now, I will continue to build my libary now that I have my system the way I want it! I have had compliments from customrs regarding my "karaoke personality". Whether I have had a bad day at the other job (usually nowadays) or not, my mood is just short of shouting out once I get the system up, sound check done, books out, and I'm ready to go! I've had some good jobs in my career, but none made me feel like this.
On the flip side, still waiting for my first bad drunk encounter and a person bringing a disk. With my 2nd laptop, I could actually rip the cdg, play the song for them, and then delete it.
