After 6 months of retirement I am itching again. I recently advertised in Craigslist for a host. I made it clear that they would do everything including procuring gigs. With the economy and job situation I am getting replies from well qualified people. whose resumes are impressive.

I am once again in unchartered waters as before I always evaluated at one of my gigs. I dont have any gigs right now but it might be a way of evaluating their PR and sales skills In fact one app has had several small businesses and is in sales with 15 years of DJ experience.

Just doing some thinking out loud but need some ideas and thoughts.

As a single op, I probably won't be much help, but will if I can. Would you be kind enough to clarify a bit?

If the hosts will be doing everything including procuring gigs, are you just offering equipment for use? I'm unsure about how you want to run the business...

Just the way it sounds They get 50% of the gigs..

Yes I know it is a foriegn concept to karaoke but there are businesses that entrust their inventory, gear, and other things to employees as standard business practice.

I am in this same boat, not 'hiring hosts' exactly rather renting out the rig to someone who wants to work it when I don't (important tax distinction!) Am I trusting my entire rig to someone, sort of. I keep the original discs under lock and key, I also have a full second rig as a backup in case they walk off with it. Going with the 50/50 split for the most part too.
Now, call me paranoid but I'm planning on locking down the system, restricting logon times for the user in windows such that he can only work shows when the rental has been agreed in advance. Still trying to work out how to lock down the files so the can't just hook up a drive and copy away.
I figure a good rental contract indicating they are responsible for the equipment in their possession and that any copying of the music will be dealt with in a civil damages kind of way. After scaring them off with all that have fun finding someone who is actually a good host!

Hardest part is finding someone with both a good personality & a good ear - often you can get one or the other & given the choice, i'd opt for good personality and give them basic settings to work with. I have hired hosts run my equipment a couple nights a week. Always have.

I hate to show distrust at the start From past experiences I was present at shows to train and evaluate. Then I could determine amount of trust. With Roxbox I can encrypt the music libraries. They are totally encrypted and make sure you have backups!!!!

Yea that is the biggest problem somebody with basic sound system skills and personality.
