I used to post as NewbieKJ. I've been out of karaoke for a while due to my job, moving, etc. but have just started hosting again.

I'm not sure of what all to say, but...

My name's Jerry. I'm married (met my wife at my first regular karaoke gig about 5 years ago -- I love karaoke!) and live in the Kansas City area. I have a small but legal show which I'm still in the process of computerizing I now have a bit over 7000 or so songs counting duplicates. I'm proud to own the Sound Choice Foundations and Bricks as the root of the library -- just wish I had more of them.

I first started hosting back around 2002, but I'm pretty rusty these days. I'm slowly getting my hosting skills back up to par and learning all the new software and hardware.

My gear includes a Mackie CFX-12, Carvin amp, Mackie 808M powered mixer (when I want to save my back), Behringer mdx4400 compressor, Peavey SP-5Gs for speakers, Shure PG-58s and an Audio 2000's rechargeable UHF wireless the AWM-6122 Numark CDN-25 dual disk player. I run the karaoke on one laptop using Compuhost while a second laptop runs the transition music and my songbook database in case I have to look up one of those darn MediaCloq discs that I have no idea how to rip. I also have a couple of boat anchor SP-2s that I keep dreaming I'll get in a permanent location some day. Ugly as sin, but they sound amazing.

Well anyway, my system is nothing spectacular, but it doesn't sound half bad when I pay attention to what I'm doing ;-)

I'm looking forward to meeting friends new and old and learning more from all of you. Best Wishes, Jerry....

I definitely love how much easier it is to haul and set up the powered mixer. I keep dreaming some day I'll find a bar where I could have a permanent setup and bring in the big old wood road case with the CFX-12, all the goodies and the old boat anchor SP-2s and just leave them set up. Love that sound, but oh Lord, hauling it!

I believe they stopped amking the 808M. It's a gem, hold on to it.

Appreciate the tip Babs, I definitely plan to keep the 808M -- the only thing I don't like about it is the onboard compressor, but the Behringer unit I added to the SKB case fixed that just fine and gave me a nice boost in headroom.
