Recording label karaoke release by major studio is very common in Asia. I just can't understand why this is not done in the West. If Sonny/BMG can do it for their Asian artists; I see no reason why they don't do it for the US/European market.

Babs when RIAA went on their rampage it totally changed the general public attitude. However it did make most aware of problems. As a result Apple and others made millions providing downloads.

In our case there never was a public awareness of our problems in our little niche or small world. There is no solution now as 99% of the bar owners dont care as they are trying to stay open and every host I know has the big hard drive. All here realize now that they are no big deal. Most here are trying to find legal download sites including college kids.

I no longer do bars on a regular basis but here is my plans. There are many independent artists now that sell downloads for .99 As a DJ this is my future source of music. We have to get away from the insanity that almost destroyed karaoke. Surely some company can come to a viable deal with independents and provide karaoke downloads.

The tx site I introduced has some very good talent on it. These are the artists we need to support.

I just got a Chartbuster Custom and under their logo before each song starts it says, "Licensed to CB- (my email address which is my Chartbuster log-in user name.)" It comes up before each song. So if it ends up on a bizillion hard drives, they will knw where it came from--although it's supposed to be a protected disc. So I guess they are already on it.

It startled me at first but one could use one's company name as the user name and have each song come up as "Licensed to CB- Monkey Business Karaoke" which sort of makes you look important and official and advertises you to the audience to boot.

Okay I'll give this one more shot.

If we look at this on a smaller scale, please take in consideration I am not trying to imply this is a solution to piracy, and have our names and a customer number on the disc and screen we could prove we bought the music. Soundchoice for example could check their own records by looking up the customer number and name to prove legitimacy. It seems a lot easier than going through having to give them our receipts or original discs.

Of course the discs or downloads bought previously would have to still be justify the old fashioned way, but at least it would be easier in the future for most.

Thank you Leopard Lizard for your thoughtful post.
