Well, I'm fed up with the 10+ years of recession in Michigan and I'm headed outta here come Summertime. No bars are making any money, many are going out of business, and convincing anyone to add karaoke to an already tight budget is getting old. Plus, having over 40 karaoke companies in a 50 mile radius.

I'll be moving to NC to finish my degree and hopefully get a job, which is hard to do around here with 16% unemployment. I want to take a trip down during Christmas break to check things out.

How is the market there? Any of your shows I could come and check out? I'll probably hit Charlotte, Fayetteville, and Raleigh.

My experience here is sporadic. Don't know about Charlotte. Raleigh used to have some good places but last time I lived there was '96. Fayetteville has the SportsFan over by the hospital and Broadstreet Cafe are good weekend haunts. Most restaurants I've seen do tues-thurs nights. Might want to try Wilmington. My friend Danny is KJ at a bar called Cody's. Martha's used to be a great hangout but it burned down last year and they are rebuilding. Think there's a few places downtown that are hot.

Well, that is one difference. NO restaurants here do karaoke. There is one pizza place that I can think of that does. Food places around here think the idea of karaoke is a joke. It has a really bad stigma here. I may check out the locations you mentioned in Fayetteville.

See if you can hjook up with Skid Rowe. He's out in the Raleigh area and I was out to his shows back in '03. I'll drop him an e-mail with this URL.

The Raleigh area is pretty saturated with karaoke, both legal and illegal. A very leagle show on Fridays is at The Brick House on Hillsboro St in Raleigh. Run by Dangerous Doug. He's been there for about 4 years and runs a very good, and fair rotation. It'a a big club with a good following and good singers. I ran the show there for about 7 years before him.

Lots of karaoke on Saturday night in Raleigh, but not sure where. I run a show in Cary (about 7 miles away) at The Upper Deck., an older, medium size club with about a 10 person rotation. We have an older crowd. Ages run from 30 to 50. There is also The Sunset Grill. That's a newer club/restaurant on Saturday night. They have about a 20 person rotation. She runs a good show. Mostly a younger crowd.

You might also try contacing Jerry here at Karaoke Scene. He runs several shows here in the Raleigh area. He is also legal.

Hope this helps.

I lived in Charlotte for a few years. My favorite karaoke in town was at Steamer's on the northside. Very blue collar bar with lots to do (fooseball, pool tables, trivia, arcade), including karaoke on Friday and Saturday nights:

Also try Midtown Sundries on the South Side in Rock Hill. More of a college bar. I think they have karaoke once in the middle of the week and one day on the weekends. There are like 7-8 more Midtown Sundries in town, but this one has the best karaoke.

Charlotte as a whole is a pretty yuppie town with lots of young professionals, and it is actually pretty hard to find a good blue collar bar with unpretentious karaoke. Both of these are about as good as it gets unless you like hanging out with rich kids in their late 20s/early 30s.
