**ding** ok you guys back into your respected corners....
Whether a movie was artistically (sp?) good or commercial good are seperrate issues. Some of the best produced and acted movies that win tons of awards you wouldn't find me watching if you paid me . That being said ... Why argue if GREASE 2 was a good movie ? The masses did not think so and the sale of this karaoke music will be for a niche market at best. This is TOPIC #2 on this subject and the fact that Zoom is making a disc ......believe it when it comes out.
**ding* Go back to fighting

An all Springsteen disc - now THAT would be a good disc that I would buy!

To me this indicates a greater likelihood that Zoom will finally do my Paul McCartney and Wings Over America live cdg.

I probably would buy the Springsteen disc as well. Songs on it are far likelier to be popular and requested on a fairly regular basis than anything from Grease 2. BTW - I'm with the consensus. I won't be buying the Grease 2 disc and the movie was horrible. I tried REALLY REALLY hard to sit through it and watch it once, but could only get through the first half hour or so. Sorry, but I can't agree that the acting was any good, much less "solid". Unless, of course, that you account for the fact that the script was so poorly written that any hack could have "acted" the roles....

Grease 2 was one of the biggest pieces of crap ever made and I DO have theater training. Anyone who liked this one must either have no real sense of good or is plain...oh, that's right!
This reviewer was spot on!
Quote: if you are an 11-year old girl, and you reviewed this film as "brilliant" or "fun" or "better than the original Grease," you have your fledgling adolescent hormones to blame and you can rest assured that this unyielding fixation with utter rubbish will pass.
If, however, you are not a little girl, you have absolutely no excuse to suggest that Grease 2 was anything but an inane, artless, slipshod embarrassment for all who participated in its production, distribution, and/or consumption.

I watched about 9 seconds of the movie on cable once, Can you say, "where's the dang remote? HURRY!" Now I loved the Grease (original) and yes, I am also a trained stage performer, but Grease 2 was nothing short of a waste of time. Was an attempt to make a quick buck "piggy backing" off a great box office smash hit. Nothing more, nothing less. Now we all know how "most" sequels turn out, badly usually, this one was really bad, even as far as sequels are concerned.
Now as far as the Zoom disc being released???? YAAAAAWWWN!!!!!! Probably will never add it to my collection. Have NEVER been asked for anything from it yet, and don't expect too either. I could be surprised tho. Why waste money on something that will not be sung, all for adding to our collection? Definitely NOT worth it.

The consensus here seems to be that no one will buy it.
This saddens me because GeminiMALE40 recently made another post ( http://www.karaoke-forum.com/viewtopic. ... ght=grease ) asking everyone to contact Zoom and request the disc be made, because if they got enough requests, they would make it. The reason it saddens me? Because with the current situation with manus hardly putting out any discs to begin with, now they are wasting their time and money making a disc that won't sell.
What do you think will happen after that?
Not only will they probably not take requests seriously anymore, but now they've lost money that they sorely can't afford to lose. It's a downhill slide from there to going out of business. We NEED to keep as many of the few manus left in business as possible, not help them on their way to bankruptcy.
PS. I seriously hope that someone from Zoom checks this forum out once in a while.

Grease 2 doesn't have a "Summer Nights" nor would there be a Mega Mix for any of those songs. Zoom has dropped the ball with this clunker of a disc. To me the only thing that was good coming out of Grease 2 was someone saw it, thought hey this is a cheesy film with a cheesy british guy, we need this guy to portray..... And I would definitely sing "Say No More Mon Amore" over any Grease 2 tripe.

Just out of curiosity, does anybody know what it really costs a company, from start to finish like ZOOM TO "ready" a disc for sale?

I know SC had stated in the past it could cost them for the production of ONE song (from getting the licensing, entire recording process from studio to mastering, to actual press/distribution of the disc) approx $6000-15000 PER song depending on the song in question, they would also need to pay licensing costs again if it was distributed on more than 1 disc - ie a Star series and a Spotlight or even when they did their artist series to include a song that they had on a Pop disc, etc. This was a few years back this was stated. I cannot imagine - just with the feedback from this small base of people in this thread alone, that Zoom will make much on this one to cover their production costs. Just out of curiosity I asked people last night if they would be interested and the answer was a unanimous 100% no!

Because the way the karaoke licencing is done in the UK the actual cost to produce a disc is relatively small because licencing fees are paid on sales and hence are not up front.
If it costs £200 per track on a 12 track disc that's £2400 plus the production of the disc £300 for 1000 that means the disc cost is £2.70. Then the only fee to pay is a %
of the discs sold for licencing, which is about 12% of the trade price
Due to the ease in getting stuff licenced in UK it amazes me that more companies haven't had them made here.
