On the wired vs wireless thing I'll say that the Shure PG58 wired sounds worse than the Performance Grade transmitter with PG58 cartridge. The wired has waaay more handling noise. That being said, my PG58 wireless on my 2nd rig looks like crap with a busted up battery cover. It'll be upgraded to the PG4/SM58 combo soon enough!

I assume you mean PGX4? The only transmitters that work with the PG4 receiver are the PG1 bodypack and PG2 handheld. The PG2 is only available with the PG58 cartridge. You have to move up to the PGX series to get an SM58. Personally at that point I'd suggest spending the extra $40 and get the Beta58 head on the PGX.

Yes, on one rig I have the PGX4/SM58 wireless along with 2 wired SM58s. The other is the PG24/PG58 wireless with a PG58 and and SM58 for wireds. I got the PG58s first as they were 'affordable' when stating out, but with a good name. The handling noise when compared to the SM58 is like a thunderstorm compared to a library (slight exaggeration)

My current pet peeve is the state of the grilles on the SM58s. They are starting to look a little too deformed!

I bought four extra ones from:

I have already used three, might have to order more. At $5.00 apiece, I figure I can afford to keep my stuff looking new.
