Wondering if anyone knows where I can buy A SATA CD/DVD burner thats CDG compatible for a custom Tower?I want to use my tower to store and play karaoke.I plan to buy a laptop later but want to set this up as a backup.Any help is is appreciated.

Virtually any DVD burner will work with modern burning and ripping software like PowerKaraoke.

While there is some great software if you wish to burn CDG discs on your PC drive, I don't recommend it for more than a few discs. PC drives are not built for hard labor.

I use a stand alone Microboards QuicDisc with built in firmware. It dupes, but it also scans for errors, copies in a safe moad, and corrects disc errors- virtually re-mastering- and it does so at a faster rate of speed.

I don't know my built in TSST corp DVD drive not only ripped over 900 cdg;s with minimal to zero graphic issues, it's also burned probably several hundred backups all using MTU Microstudio & Hoster. And still going strong after 3 years now.
The drives in the standalone unit you have are no better than an off the shelf Plextor (at least the few models i've experienced) that were designed to read most formats including cdg. I have 3 other drives that are not 'cdg' compatible (according to CDGWIN, older Tricerasoft software & a couple others) that do just fine both reading & burning (with MTU Microstudio & Powerkaraoke) on a regular basis. May be a little better construction today as far as reliability - and even if not, they are MUCH cheaper to replace if they wear out. The software has a good bit to do with what will actually work or not today.

That's a funny statement, these Microboards are using a generic PC drive so where's the difference I would prefer using a Pioneer or LiteOn drive before using these generic burner

To answer your question; Pioneer & LiteOn make good Sata drive that are CDG compatible

Don't know about the TSST item, but I will modify my statement to say that MOST PC drives- particularly laptops- aren't up to the task. The QuicDisc has heavy duty drives- built specifically for a LOT of work.

Either way, the stand alone is not part of your PC, therefore no risk is taken with a very important and expensive tool.
