Lonman, upon purchasing the "new" version, how did you know what "new" version to buy? How did you know it wasn't the same as the version you had, or worse? How many "other" versions were out there to choose from? Especially if your "original" version was from a "top" manufacturer, how do you choose a version that is (supposed) to be inferior? Do you network with other kjs, do you network with manus, you have to start somewhere, where? How do you get from "I need a "new" version, to, "I'm going to get "this" version?

Well I am never going to replace a version with a version I already have. So I would know I wasn't getting that version right off. Depending on which version I had I would most likely go down my list of my personal top rated manus & get the next step down (or if it was a lower grade, the next step up). I may or may not ask for others opinions on a different version, I would most likely listen to the singer before I ask another KJ in most cases - so I would most likely take my chances that the next version is more acceptable. But out of all the years i've been doing karaoke, i've only needed to actually replace 3 songs due to customer complaints. Sometimes you have to evaluate who is doing the complaining as well, some people complain JUST to complain.

Well, in a perfect world, we would ALL have minds that could remember EVERYTHING we see and hear, but to think that ANYONE could possible know EVERY song in their database, in my opinion is RIDICULOUS. Unless you have a very small database, it's IMPOSSIBLE to not only know ALL the songs in EVERY genre, but to know what the whole song sounds like. I won't argue the point, because I already know that there's just NO WAY. So I'll stick to asking questions, and asking for input, instead of thinking that I KNOW IT ALL. For anyone that thinks this topic is worthless, DON'T POST ON IT. For the rest, I hope it works.

Again------------------ Or at least the main stays. I can tell you that when I hear a song that doesn't sound right,,,,, I don't forget it.

The way I see it, the "best" version is the one most popular with the singers.... Theirs is the only opinion that counts.

But it also varies from singer to singer. I'm not going to spend money to purposely get duplicates from other manus, unless the version I have is unanimously inferior, then I will work on a replacement - which I have done & actually just did a month ago on a song that I had numerous complaints about. Replacement version has garnered all praises.

Hence the phrase "MOST popular"- in other words, please the majority, doing what you have done. I may get a track on Zoom or SuperCore and it pleases most, or I may have to go in a direction that I never thought of.

For example, despite better thought of brands' version of Holly Holy, the most popular version ( also strangely-with good reason) seems to be Backstage. Sometimes that's just the way it is...

Another good example Joe. More than likely, only the kj would know what is the MOST popular version for the masses. Just as Sweet Georgia Brown has the MOST popular version of "Before The Next Teardrop Falls", because it has the Spanish verse. Most singers would just request this song, the kj would give them SC, or CB, and think they were giving them the best version. Until, the SINGER sees the first verse repeated instead of being in SPANISH. I still think we should all buy what we prefer, but also think that if we get a request for a specific song (that we don't know), it wouldn't hurt to come on the forum and ASK.

Thanks,
Rosario

Well this particular song was an upgrade from a lower version (on my personal top manu picks it went from a PHM to a CB for a country song) so I was pretty sure it was going to be better and since no one really gave any input on this one as far as a preferred manu, I took a chance.

Haven't heard that with Holly Holy, as a matter of fact quite the opposite, however I have heard that numerous times with I Am I Said off of the Backstage.

The Pioneer version has the Spanish section for the singer to sing as well.

Did Pioneer also make cdgs, or were they just laser? Whenever I hear someone talking about Pioneer, they're talking about the LARGE laser discs, the size of a vinyl LP.

They did re-release most of their library for a while in cdg format and also in DVD for a short stint.
