I've been using a Behringer Eurorack 1204fx for about 6 years now but I think a channels going out. I've had good luck with it but now speaker will cut out here and there. I can touch the 1/4 inch jacks connected to mixer from my laptop and will get static and cut out with my speaker. So I'm assuming its my mixer. Well, anyhow, I'm considering these mixers and would like any input:

I have only owned the 1 mixer so I don't know too much about the other brands. Only smaller clubs such as Eagles, VFW, etc. Want to try to keep under $250 as I only play 10-12 gigs a year plus parties at home. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

In my humble opinion, comparing Behringer to Mackie & Yamaha is like comparing a Big Mac to a Morton's or Ruth's Filet.

After owning several of their products, I now avoid the Behringer brand. I had nothing but noisy units that couldn't stand up to the rigors of the road. There are some that love them and think they are a great deal for the price. In my experience getting a great deal on crap is still crap.

Now, between the Mackie & Yamaha? Both are excellent units and you will be very pleased with either.

So, you have a Behringer unit that has served you well for 6 years? So it seems the last thing you need is someone telling you how bad Behringer is …..

I’ve used in the past an older version of the Behringer 1222FX and loved it.

Now the new verion has USB hook up and compression on the vocal channels along with builit in EFX and a graphic EQ’s.

I’ve been contemplating purchasing the exact same unit.

You can buy a more expensive unit from Yamaha and Mackie and or AH but for live karaoke applications the BEHRINGER would be my overall choice for an under $250 mixer. Plus it comes with rack ears for mounting.

I bought a:

http://pro-audio.musiciansfriend.com/pr ... B&ZYXSEM=0

And I'm loving it! I bought the 8 but it didn't have enough mic inputs. If you're using many mics, I am (wireless and wired) and if you're going to do some live work (guitar players, etc.) I'd get as many inputs as you can afford.

In any case, the only thing I liked better on the Yamaha was the one knob compression. But, those units were hard to find and I wanted the one with more inputs and I couldn't find one of those at all. I picked up a DBX to took care of the compression anyway....

The Mackie kicks (@$%&#!) for sure... dude! 8)

I've owned Behringer and Yamaha, and far prefer Yamaha. Audibly cleaner sound.

Mackie's got a good name, but they are having problems with their supply chain and manufacturing right now. They are not the same company they were 10 years ago.

Also the Yamaha MG82CX has a useful compression capability on your two main mic channels. I own one, as well as the next two higher (MG124CX in a permanent club install, MG166CX as my main mixer) and love them all. The internal effects work pretty well and I use them in my club install (6 shows a month) with great results.

I'd personally avoid anything Behringer. Mainl;y sound quality being not as clean when compared to the others, also I have never had any reliability with them, channels usually end up dying within a few months, even lost the effects on another model. A friend of mine at GC also states that Behringer is THE number one returned products of any other brand due to quality/dead products. Some do actually get lucky with them & love them to death, who knows you may be one of them.
The Mackie would be my first choice, Yamaha second. But either would be a great board.

The Xenyx x1222usb
is my choice...

Feature-wise it cant be beat by any in its price range.

Dont worry about all the negatives, my dad got burnt by a Ford Pinto and never purchased another Ford. And he always mentioned how bad ford was when he got in my Mustang, oh that Pony gave me 250k miles.

Thanks for all the replies. I think I'm going to choose between the Behringer RX1202fx and the Behringer X1222usb for a couple reasons. The Yamaha only has 2 spots for mics and all the trouble Mackie has been having. On the other hand, I have had pretty good luck with Behringer despite all the negative feedback. As for the 2 I've narrowed it down to, which would be the better choice? I do like the idea of saving space with the 1202fx and I read in another post that Lonman and DannyG recommended it but is it better than the 1222usb. Thanks for any additional replies.

It really depends on what type you are looking for. If you're looking for a rack mounted mixer that will fit vertically then the 1202fx is a good fit. If you want your mixer to be lying flat on the top of your rack then the other is what you want.

What's the history here? Do they die pretty quickly? Dead channels, the EFX's?

I understand that Peavey started getting their boards built by the company that used to bilud the Behringer stuff (and Behringer left them because of issues) and the Peavey boards have gone way down hill? I might have this wrong?

Most of the cheaper mixers are built in the same country - China! It's all a matter of How they are being built. I have a China built mixer from Mackie 1642 VLZ3 that blows away my previous 1642VLZPRO that I owned in a previous system that was made in America. The sound quality & overall feel is ever as good as the America made version.
I bought a Behringer board becuase I needed something NOW, it worked great for a few months then started losing channels & the effects within 6 months. Replaced under warranty, the 2nd board lost channels within 3 months. Previous experience & stories from others completely steer me away from them for pro use. Yes I may tell someone on a budget for home use only to chance them.

Nothing specific. It's just an observation on the company's well-documented troubles over the past two years. Historically they have a good name, quite a bit better than Behringer. Their mixers have sort have been the standard for the low to medium market, and they had a great rep for their powered speakers. But a restructuring and multiple buyouts has left them unable to supply product as well as they used to, and some quality problems for their speakers in particular. (This is gleaned from LAB sound and here.)

I selected Yamaha because I liked the feature set compared to the Mackie board. If Mackie had a comparable product, I would certainly consider them.

Behringer I have had pretty good luck with myself. My reason for not using their mixers is the audible difference in quality. I find I have more headroom with the Yamaha boards.

I have used an older version of the Behringer 1222FX . In fact I sold a Mackie DFX12 for it. Between the two I could tell know difference in audio quality in a live music setting. Probably in a studio with recordings maybe a whole nother story LOL.

Personally I think Behringer has made quality improvements over the years.
The reason I suggest Behringer was that the OP has used one in the past WITHOUT PROBLEMS.

who knows

I just had my 1642 in for it's yearly cleaning/maintenence & use my CFX12 for the backup - even the audible difference between those two boards are unbelieveable - it was ok, but was so happy to get the good board back, sound was so much crisper, clearer over the CFX, and I swore by that board for years, that actually replaced a Soundcraft Spirit Folio 4 that was dying - that was a good little board too.
Their DFX line wasn't their greatest either.

Well according to me it is depends on what type you are looking for. If you are looking vertically or flat. I think Pioneers are the best and i prefer it the most. And be sure to get some Techniques for your tables with a good motor.

Yeah. Don't worry about the negatives. Just ignore those crackpots!

Just as you pointed out, not ALL Ford's exploded in ball's of fire. Yours was awesome. I am sure that not all Behringer products are noisy, poorly made consumer gear as well. I guess I was just unlucky in that the two mixers and one EQ I owned were. I ditched them and never looked back...much like your father.
