What a thread. Back to the original post.
My room generally has A, B and C nearly every night. A comes in early, drinks their two beers, sings their two songs and exits while B filters into the room. It gets a bit louder and a bit less serious while C filters into the room. Then B either leaves or they all turn into C.
That's the general pattern. Knowing when these things are happening is the key. I can't jockey with rotation early one, it'll piss folks off. I can a little in the middle of the evening and at the end it's just keeping the party going and the folks having fun.
I'm betting that most of us have the same transitions as it gets busier late in the evening with each place having it's own degree of variance.
That being said: If you're still getting paid the same or more than when you started you're a success. Keep it up and keep doing whatever your room wants.

That was very well described, Gryf! Thanks!
I agree, many nights that's exactly how the night goes!
