I'm pretty excited at the moment. As some of you may remember when my wife and I bought our house we had a specific requirement for a room large enough to host a band and spectators. We've got a good 24x30 family room in the lower level that suits this purpose. I've used varying PA options in there but just got a deal I couldn't refuse for some speakers that will become a permanent fixture in there.

A local recording company went out of business recently and has been cleaning out their studio, selling off most of their stuff. We picked up a lot of stuff for our production company's studio. While there we noticed a pair of Urei 813A's mounted high up in the wall of one of the control rooms. We asked about them and were told basically if we could get them down they'd be ours (i.e. sweat equity = free). So as of last night I'm now the proud owner of a pair of Urei's. Damn the suckers are big (bigger than my old JBL 18") and I do have to get the foam surrounds replaced on the sub-low 15, but I'm really looking forward to getting these things installed in our family room. They should be the perfect speakers for our purposes. Back in their day, these things were the most ultra accurate studio monitors you could buy, I can't believe I actually have a set now. :banger:

Yeah, gotta love those big ranch homes with the full basements underneath :). So as it stands right now, I've almost got a complete 5.1 solution for a permanent PA in the family room. I plan to zone it out so that the speakers will serve the 6 channels in a 5.1 surround config when running audio from the entertainment system through them but double as mains and monitors when we're jamming down there. Here's what I've got so far:

2 - Urei 813A's for Fronts/Monitors
2 - Bose 802's for Rears/Mains
1 - JBL G-718 for Sub Low

All I need now is to find a good Center Channel speaker and I'm good to go.

I'm going to Soffit mount the 813's which from my understanding allows them to extend frequency response all the way down to 50 Hz. The 802's will be either on stands or somehow mounted to the walls. The 718 goes under the stairs to help maximize it's output as well. With individual control of the levels, delay and EQ for each channel of output, not only will I have incredible volume capability but it should sound AWESOME. Not a true audiophile's concept of a home entertainment system and certainly an eclectic mix of speakers but I'm excited about the possibilities.
