I'm glad it went well for you. Guinness as a cure for scratchy throat sounds like a new ad campaign but it might horrify a few vocal instructors.

Rumpelminz, gargle and swallow. Whatever it doesn't coat, it will burn into submission. Drink water first, then take a shot. Also have a Bloody Mary as your (sipping) drink. Be sure to have them go light on the celery salt, and HEAVY on the Tabasco, as the Capzasin in good for sinuses (keeps the juices flowing). Repeat as needed, and call me in the morning. Better yet, make that afternoon.

I sang for four hours a night and always drink hot tea with honey when I started feeling my throat going dry. It worked for me.

This is old stuff.
Already worked out by the French years back.
They knew how to solve a throat problem.

Halls Honey and Lemon cough drops always helped me. ALso just drink room temp water, not hot or cold, just room temp.

If you don't know anything about taking care of your 'voice' I highly recommend some research. Talk with voice professionals, vocal coaches, doctors and the like about how to take care of your voice.
I've talked with voice over professionals, my vocal coach (who was at the Met for 8 years), and my doctor. I've done lots of study and reading on the subject.
Hydration is one of the most important things in taking care of your voice. On average it takes about 2-3 DAYS to hydrate properly. And drinking room temp water is the best way to hydrate.
There are lots of things you can do to help - particularly if you have a cold coming on, etc.

Of course it isn't a substitute for voice lessons for someone who really takes this stuff seriously, but a simple Google search will come up with videos of sessions with an actual instructor, which is at least some help. Sorting out the useful advice from the Bravo Sierra, is, as always, left as exercise.

When I was touring professionally as a vocalist, I swore by soda water (no lemons or limes).
