I've never had it sung, but believe it's a beautiful song. I don't think it is a downer necessarily because of the lyrics. It's a slower sweet song that in my bar would be received well as long as it was sung well. A slow song by a bad singer never gets much praise. Two thumbs up from me.
I think any song that is on the slower side doesn't go over well on a rowdy up beat night. I think it has it place though.

I'm with Babs. I think on the right night, with the right crowd (& most especially if sung by a singer who could carry the song) that it could go over well.
My bar would most likely love it- we get a lot of ballad stuff. Again, given the right singer, since it's such a popular and well liked song, I don't think it would deaden a crowd. Not unless it's a huge rowdy party night.
(did i give ya enough variables there?) haha
oh, and btw, I've yet to hear it done at karoake.
