Hi gang,
I've already made a few posts (and been a lurker since 2006!) so I suppose I should post an intro here.
My name is Bob, and I'm a KJ. (Everyone - "hi Bob!")
Been doing private parties since 2003, and started a regular weekly show at the local restaurant since 2004. Have done some other weekly shows at other more "bar" type of establishment also, as well as straight dance DJ for a couple of bars. I've also been the sound engineer for the Music Dept performances at the local community college (see my Avatar). But karaoke is my primary love and interest.
I think I'm one of the few remaining working KJ's who is still disc-based (early adopter, NOT!) but I'm going to be making the plunge into computer hosting any day now. Hence my "awakening" with being more active in the forums.
I'm most excited about being hired recently to work as the DJ on a cruise ship this Xmas, a 3-week voyage from San Diego to Florida via both coasts of Central America and the Panama Canal. It'll be a mix of DJ nights and karaoke nights. For some reason this feels like "the big time" although I really enjoy the loyal customer base I've earned in the last six years here in my area.
To me being a KJ is the greatest job in the world: where else can I get paid to go to a party every week, and be the life of the party besides?
See you on stage!
"KJ Bob"
PS. Is there no way to Search back into past threads to locate information of interest in these Forums??? How odd!

Hiya
I've been enjoying your posts. I hope you continue on.
I brought my mixer in for a cleaning and my equipment doctor was telling me about a guy that works near the ocean. I guess there is a huge problem with your equipment and the salt water air. A lot of corrosion problems. I thought if you hadn't worked in this type of environment before you might want to know ahead of time.

That's a good point Babs. I'll be at sea for 3 weeks (20 days) so hopefully the exposure to the salt air isn't long enough to damage things. I'll be in the night club lounge and not on deck so that should also help. If I end up doing more cruises I'll have to think about how to combat this.
