I still cant decide I know 2 kj's that use MTU and 1 that uses Compuhost.
has MTU lost it's edge? Seems like it used to be the best one out there.

Subject to opinion. I have used both and found Hoster to be the better product for my needs. I don't worry about the proprietary format as I do not see any reason in the foreseeable future why I would need to switch to something else - haven't seen anything else that excites me enough to want to switch. However you can rip your discs to mp3g and Hoster will still play and catalog the files just like it would if you used it's own ripper (and yes I agree it seems to create cleaner rips). Or there are programs that will convert the kma files to mp3g as well if you really felt the need. Again I personally find it much easier to use than CH .
There are some cool things coming on the horizon for Hoster as well although I cannot say what at this time.

Ok guys I am at the same crossroad. I have been playing around with MTU and Compuhost but cannot make up my mind. The one thing that sticks out to me is the MTU program seems to do a much nicer job of ripping my cdg's. Pricewise they are comparable but the MTU seems to have a edge in the ripping area. Any good unbiased answers out there.

Ripping happens once. And as Danny pointed out, MTU Hoster rips to a proprietary format that locks you in to them. (They did add an extra-cost program a couple of years ago that they say will convert back.)
It works with other formats as well, not just created to change the KMA files over, but that is an added benefit.

Also, it isn't clear what you mean by "nicer job of ripping". Faster? Better labeling?
In my experience the graphics rarely garble with Hoster ripper when compared to the same disc ripped with a program like cdgrip or the likes. I have had discs that wouldn't rip at all with a couple of the other programs that Hoster read beautifully.

But it's extra cost.

You can take the extra cost and buy PowerKaraoke, which is an excellent ripper and converter with never a garbled lyric.

Bottom line is both CompuHost and MTU Hoster have their advantages. The top one for Hoster is the reading of user disks. In a lot of other ways they suffer in comparison.

I use both. I like Hoster for practice and singing gigs, and Compuhost for karaoke gigs with a rotation. Either can do the job, but for gigging CompuHost is superior.

I have to disagree, but that's the beauty of choice! :)

I just upgraded from Siglos basic to Siglos professtional. I really like the program. Simple to use, it keeps track of your rotation and runs a little line on the bottom of your video showing the next singers. The upgrade was reasonable and the program does all I need in a karaoke show. Again I want to stress the ease with which I figured out this program.

I used tricerasoft cdg ripper and recommend it. Again I found it easy to use and to name the songs. One note be sure to spend an extra $15 to buy their list of songs and then review every song before ripping. They vary between first name first and last name first from cd to cd. You need to also watch the spelling.

Finally I used tricerasoft song book creator and found it to be a great program. One complaint is the program provides no way of saving your songbook to take to a printer. I contacted their help department and they had me download primo pdf creator which lets you save your song book as a pdf file. A second complaint on the program is that I can't find a way to save the songbook after I create it.

Rick

25 replies and no one has mentioned Latshaw Systems "Karma"

http://www.latshawsystems.com/

All of the programs mentioned above are good programs and have unique features to their own.

Find the one that works for you...the way you want to run a show... and that is all the advice you need.

DISNEY. They go after everyone possible, including schools. We had an elementary school here that had an outside wall mural with various cartoon characters including Disney. It took a few years but Disney found out and soon after the Disney characters disappeared.

Mickey be careful.

I hate proprietary formats. Companies that go out of their way to suck you in to using them will never get any support from me. With that said, this question comes up from time to time and is so redundant. Everybody is going to say that what they use is the best. So, no help from asking this question and reading the responses. Best answer: Decide for yourself.

I propose making this a sticky topic so we don't have to re-hash this every two weeks.
