You know, normally I'm the first to echo the chant "No Highs, No Lows, it must be Bose" and I'm a firm believer in the accuracy of that sentiment. However, I gotta give props when their due, and this weekend was one of those times.

I had a small private party gig on Saturday. A Christmas party for the faculty, staff and their spouses from a local elementary school hosted by one of the teachers in his basement. Given the size of the venue, space was a premium. So instead of my normal Mackie S215 rig that I usually use for Karaoke, I decide to try a more condensed solution. I pulled the Bose 802's that we have in our family room for the night. The Mackie SRS-1500 subs I normally use were out on a different gig and my 18" JBL is just too big for this situation, so I had to go with no sub-woofer. I was fairly nervous about using the 802's with no sub-low device.

Well the results were simply astonishing. Given the specified frequency range of the Bose 802's I setup a high-pass filter at 50Hz. Ran the 802's off the AB 1100A with the 802C processor in the chain between the console and the amp. I was very impressed with the low end response in particular. The fidelity across the full range of sound that Bose is known for was certainly apparent as well. Even when some rap and R&B tunes came up on the play list, the 802's did a solid job. I was shocked.

So there you have it, for as much as I bash Bose (and deservingly in most cases IMO) I can also admit when they do perform as well as their advertised to.

I myself really don't care for how over priced they are for what you get. My last vette and now my current ZO6 both came with Bose systems in them and they are adequate for some people, just not for me. To each his own but once again it's those sky high prices that I find tough to take.

I found a Bose L1 Model 1 Dual Bass on Criagslist earlier this year for $1,200. It was in mint condition. I knew it was a deal, so I picked it up thinking that I could always resell it and make a profit. I used it for karaoke and was astonished at the quality of the sound. I now use it for DJ gigs as well, but I usually supplement it with a JBL EON for maximum disbursement. I also use the same JBL EON for karaoke as a monitor.

The only downfall is that people think it is a solid pole and they always try to lean on it. I now place it away from the stage because it ALWAYS happened (never fell over though).

I own and use 2 L1 Systems for Karaoke with 2 B1 bass mod's, easy set up great sound, with Lonmans suggestion of a Mackie CFX12 mixer a few years back my system rocks.

I recently purchased 2 BOSE L1 compacts (thanks to Flipper) for smaller gigs and Nursing home shows and use the BOSE T1 tonematch mixer.

great stuff if you can afford it. less heavy lifting and set up time is about 10 min or less.

I too have two Bose L1 Compacts for my KJ, they are the best karoake system in my opinion.

model II with 2 subs and never been happier.

I am considering the L1.....just not sure on Model I or Model II. Anyone used or heard both in use and have an opinion?

If you can get the model II I'd recommend that over the model I. A lot of processing revisions were made and I believe the model II has some additional features that make it a little more flexible than the original L1.

The sound dock sucks,,,,,,,period. Buy altec lansing, 10 times better lows, no distortion, overall sound blows the bose away.
