I'm running this at home with a nice new HP dual core AMD processor, 3 GB memory windows 7 fresh out of the box.
Latest winamp
Latest pacemaker.
With pacemaker processing enabled I am definitely more susceptible to skipping. Take that out of the loop and it is reduced. I'm loathe to remove it as I do get an occasional request for a key / temp change. I even have my program set up to control pacemaker automatically.
I use winamp because it'll handle pretty much anything I throw at it but it seems the DSP is an issue.
Using an older version of winamp seemed to reduce the problem but not eliminate it.
Pacemaker cannot be installed and uninstalled on the fly so.... bugger.

Are you running more than 1 DSP plugin by using a dsp stacker?

Thanks again for the comments...
Nothing else running, no AV, all updates completed, no extra HD activity before playing the song.
No other DSP running, nothing, nada, zip.
I haven't tried going that far back in prior versions but I'll give it a shot. You'd think that newer is better, especially when these programs have been updated to work better with Win 7 and multi core processors.
I guess I could try and have two installs of winamp, running one with pacemaker and one without.

Still waiting to try an earlier version of pacemaker. (They do have their history of releases on their site so good for them!) I already found oldversion.com but it's definitely a good resource for all to have.
In my world I need winamp 5 and the 2.1 version of pacemaker since my java program issues hotkeys to control pacemaker (easiest way for my to implement without writing a winamp control plugin).
Hopefully I'll be able to test this and find an appropriate version combination that works. Although the benefit of going the autoKDJ approach and having a java-based media player rather than subbing out to winamp is getting more appealing. If only I had enough time to dick around with all the Java Media Framework rather than doing my day job!
