I am looking to purchase a Karaoke player for my home use. From my research I've decided on a rack mount unit to add to my stereo set up. This is going to be a xmas gift for my daughters but i want something that we adults can use.
Ive been looking at the Acesonic DGX-109 and some Cavs models. My question is two fold. 1. How are these manufactures? and My girls are younger and obviously would like their young girl (very current) music. Is there a better format CDG or MP3 +G that is better for that?
I seem to like what the Acesonic DGX-109 has feature wise including its recording features but im not sure it also plays cdg.
Please lend me your knowledge and any insight or reccomendations.
Thanks
Scott

Sorry mate, I can't help much.
From http://www.acesonic.com/playersitem.php?id=2
you get
Compatible Disc Formats: CD, CD+G, VCD, DVD, CD-R, CD-RW, DVD¡ÓR/RW, Dual Layer DVD¡ÓR/RW
Plays Both NTSC and PAL Discs. Automatic NTSC and PAL switching
What I don't like is
turn any track into a karaoke track!
You can download thousands of MP3+G songs online for FREE.

I HATE CAVS. Run don't walk away from them!! Five years ago I bought a 203G player. From day one it did not work. Failed on me the very first gig it was used on. Would completely lock up when loading an SCDG disc. Ended up shipping it to CAVS for warranty service, at my expense. They had it for a month, never contacted me, I had to constantly call them for updates. Finally they decided they couldn't find the problem so they shipped the same unit back to me with no repairs performed. The first SCDG I loaded after I got it back, it locked up again. So I shipped it back again. Two months later they still had found no issue and returned the same unit to me again!! You'd think by this time they'd just replace it with a different unit, but nope not these guys. Same experience this time, they never called me, I had to call them and there service pretty much sucked.
I wouldn't recommend them to my worst enemy. That 203G player has never been used since, still has the same problem. I spent a small fortune on SCDG's that I've never used thanks to CAVS.

Tony look into karaoke file converter from roxbox. it will turn the songs on the SCDG to a usable computer format. Then you won't have wasted money on SCDG's.

Ok, you want top quality and you want rack mount?
Here it is, and you can now buy it cheap
http://www.numark.com/cdn25g
I've had one in my rack three years and it's killer!
This thing is true line level and the video is rock solid. This not comsumer grade stuff adapted to pro audio use, it's designed to be totally compatable with proaudio components like mixers and other rack gear.
It is presently about 160 bucks which is half what I paid back then. I'd certainly do it again

Numark no longer makes that product anymore. There are a handful still left on shelves out there that you can get though. I agree with Keith tho on the thing is really a good unit. I have one, had it for over 6 years of flawless service. I have heard of others who have had problems with them early on. If they don't break within the first month or so, then they are tanks it seems. Good luck in finding one tho.
Hope you had luck in finding what you wanted for Christmas tho. Merry Christmas to ya as well.

I don't have experience with the other players that you have mentioned, but I do have a great deal of experience with CAVS. It is really a great player, and I have had no problems with it. It takes a little learning to convert the CD+Gs or SCDGs to use in the CAVS player, but you have the benefit of this message board to get you through it (I didn't!).
Note that you would need to buy the CAVS 203G USB model - the USB is important if you are planning to use an external hard drive. Even for home use, I would strongly recommend the USB model because it will allow you to download songs and put them directly on the hard drive without having to burn them to a disk - which may take a special CD burner.
Someone mentioned the Roxbox - which is what I used to convert the SCDGs to mp3+mcg format. If I remember correctly, I downloaded the free trial, used it for my 6 SCDGs and never used it again (and it didn't cost me a dime).
One other note on the CAVS player - you can also store music on it, play DVDs and other media formats. So, it can theoretically replace your DVD player (just doesn't play Blu-Rays).
People ask me why I use a CAVS player instead of a computer at my shows. First, I don't always do my shows, as I use hired KJs. I will not send a hired KJ to do a show with a computer. Second, the way it mounts in my rack, it is basically out of harms way and cannot have drinks spilled on it (or whatever other hazards might exist). Finally, it is so easy to use once you have it all set up that I save a tremendous amount of time having to train someone.
Two enthusiastic thumbs UP for the CAVS.
