Congratulations. Pretty funny and imaginative.
Oh--I know why I mistakenly thought you had been in the Reno area--came across it again--a Yelp or something review of a Reno karaoke venue that starts out, "Having been spoiled by the incredible Roger Niner......" But I guess they were just visiting.

I just found the review you were looking at! That's a good friend and old regular of mine, before she left our foggy coast She is a fellow "Kara-Obscurist" like me, always trying to find songs from left field.

Brilliant marketing move to get press...intentional or not.

I honestly had no idea that this would get any outside attention at all. I just thought it would be something amusing between KJs. The SF Weekly guys came to one of my shows and saw the page in one of my books, found it funny, and gave me a call.

You are a PR genius, and you don't even know it yet.
Congratulations!

I love it.
Just waiting for the karaoke snobs around here to critique the 'Careless Whisper' singers.. they'd have sounded way better had they been singing into a $700 wireless mics.

That is just too funny.... Charge $5 for songs you hate to hear. How much do you think us East Coasters should charge for "PDTDBL"?
BTW... Nice article and interview.

Great article.
I wonder if I could get away with that with Love Shack?

I think at leats $5 per singer - an easy $10 (in some cases $15 for PDBTDL as a lot of times it is done by 2 females and 1 male at my gig)

Add Summer Nights to the PBTDL and any Journey by random singers (as opposed to the regulars who I KNOW can pull it off)...Oh, and pretty well any Heart (again with the "regular" proviso). Gawd...get so TIRED of it.

Guess I won't sing at any of your shows Karen because 80's Arena rock is all I sing.
Journey, Styx, Boston, a couple of Heart tunes etc.

Hey, if you can sing it great...but I've had so many "I've never sung karaoke before" people put up a Journey or Heart song and drive the crowd out the door at the speed of sound... I do have singers who do a heck of a good job on these songs but for some reason when they're done poorly it's worse than when other songs are done poorly.

Add Bohemian Rhapsody and charge $1 to everyone in the crowd who head bangs at that one part of the song.
