Perhaps the language I used in my earlier post was a bit harsh but I am simply exhausted by all this political correctness. There is no "right way" to run a karaoke show as demonstrated by the varied approaches taken by hosts on this board. Therefore, to post a list of attributes for "hardcore" (good) and casual (bad) points of hosting as absolute or authoritative would seem to be unreasonable in the extreme.

I don't know, I rather liked the list. There are a few items that I think were posted as absolutes that shouldn't be. For instance, there are those here who are hired to provide a DJ/Karaoke show. In those cases honoring requests for DJ Music isn't only advisable, it's required. I know a couple bars that have really made that work and they're packed on their DJ/Karaoke nights.

Also, the idea that you have to be behind the mixer the whole time I don't agree with either. Especially if you don't have mix cues, then why stand back there for the whole song? Get the mix right, if you need to tweak the EQ or Dynamics do that and then leave it alone. Get out in the house and meet people, schmooze, have fun with them. That can make for a very good host as long as you don't neglect the person on stage. Personally, I do spend a lot of time behind the console. I do have a lot of cues on most popular songs so I'm working the desk. Also I'm usually busy enough entering songs for folks and answering their questions that I don't have a lot of time to roam. But if the opportunity presents itself, I'm out there.
