A large percentage of people here wouldn't like my karaoke shows, but that's ok. It's hard to keep things fresh, I'm more active than anyone know and run very successful shows. I have always been a guy that does breaks and play dance music. I still try to hit at least one a night, but my shows are just too busy to do anymore than a 3 song break at midnight.
It's hard to reinvent the wheel but I'm looking for ideas to make the show even better.
Recent editions:
Text Live - People can interact with each other texting to screens and text request for their songs. We can also run trivia on tvs along with specials and other bar stuff.
Computer search station - We setup a pc for people to search for a song vs panning though a book.
E-Reader Books - I was able to make pdf files and put them on cheap e-reader for people to use as books.
Separated Hard copy books - We have a rock book, a country book, a everything book, a section that has songs good for new singer and a duet section.
I switched all filler music to music videos.
On very busy nights we hand the mic to the next singer before the current singer is finished to keep the rotation moving.
All lighting has been changed to LED that is not hot.
Places that are big enough we have moving heads that make the stage look incredible.
I'm out of ideas. My music collection is second to none and if there is a song out we don't have we just buy it on site from karaokeversion or SBI.
My sound equipment can't be upgraded I'm running all EV with shure 58 wireless mics.

i second midget bowling. you got a lot going as it is, something to try may just be to ask your regulars. i used to have picks from the previous week as the CDG background. after another thread on here and looking at it myself, i thought it was too busy so i just went to the background i used for my logo, kinda looks like a shiny black surface. after 2 weeks people started asking where the pics were, i guess they loved seeing themselves and their friends on screen and it did not really make it difficult to read the words. go figure, so i put them back up. sometimes asking your regulars gives a different input than what you or I may think and make them feel a part of it. another idea, i dont have a stage so it won't work for me but.... i can use a webcam as the background, maybe put a webcam on the monitor and have the current singer as the background.

With text live people can can send pictures from their cell phone to the screen so, I kinda do that already. Not on full scale though.

I gotta say... I looking at options to go paperless, and had considered the ebook reader option... but that texting song request thing is effing brilliant... why didn't I think of that?? My show won't be running till next month, so I have no way of testing this in a live environment, but since reading this, I just came across Joopz 2 way text to computer service. That would really run well with my laptop show I think. I'm gonna run some tests and see if that's a viable option. Thanks for the idea! Edit... Joopz is a no go... but this still gives me something to look into more

Dye, Sounds like you got all of your bases covered there, short of having your regulars perform costumed skits (impersonations). Yours is the kind of show i put on for years for corporate and high-dollar private events. I also hired addtional professional dance instructors (i am one as well) to teach various dances to the crowd. At one of my weekly kj gigs, i also run promo-only music videos and get people dancing. I saw the live texting thing at MB a couple years back- very cool. I'd say for just a karaoke show, you're doing great things to make it entertaining for everybody! I'd come see your show anyday of the week!
